On asking if there is a possibility of the show returning for season four, Lowney said, “Everybody knew it was the end, but it’s also the end for now. It’s going to be two or three years before anything happens — if anything happens — so let’s try and tie up all these stories properly. I’m trying to remember how the script was delivered, because I’ve a feeling I might have gotten a big chunk of it, and then there’d be more coming — but I didn’t know how much more yet.”

The topic of the successful show ending started to circle when reports suggested that Jason Sudeikis wanted to close things out after a lengthy development cycle, when and co-creator and star Brendan Hunt also believed that Sudeikis’ feelings about the show’s time done was right. But now Lowney’s comment about the potential return has made things unclear yet again.

He noted that there could be a possibility that makers would like to explore that storyline, but nothing can be said with assurance. Whereas Phil Dunster who plays Jamie Tartt on the show had a clear response when asked about the potential return, that there is enough TV around for the audience to watch.

Lowney in his interview noted that every time they do a season, it’s a year in England for the cast, away from their families, which is tough, but he thinks that they could have kept it going. Sudekis wanted a three-season arc and that was the deal. He lastly mentioned, “But I feel there’s something else. … There will be other things.”

Hannah Waddingham thrilled about a potential spin-off with Keeley and Rebecca

Actress Hannah Waddingham expressed her excitement in an interview about a potential spinoff starring her and Juno Temple, who stars as Keeley on the show. She believes that her character Rebecca’s storyline is interesting and can be explored if given the opportunity, especially after Keeley suggests an AFC Richmond Women’s team to Rebecca.

She said during an interview with the Los Angeles Times,

“When Juno and I read that, we didn’t know how we wanted to convey our excitement about the potential of that. [In the script] I was meant to look up from the folder and just be like, “Oh, it’s on.” But we couldn’t contain our excitement. So, if you look at it, we do have a moment of “Aghhhh!” The hard part is the fact that, unless I play her, Rebecca doesn’t exist anymore.”

The actress continued to point,

“If you are left at a moment with the character, you want to see them through that moment. Does it work with her and the Dutchman? Does she have a female league? I mean, I hope so! It feels like it’s finished but not finished, because none of our lives are.”

However, there have been no updates from the channel about the show, but it’s interesting to wonder how many unresolved storylines could be explored if the show is given a green signal for a fourth season.
