“It’s just unfair for anybody to comment”: Mark Wahlberg Regretted Cursing Tom Cruise After Top Gun 2 Star Compared Movie Making With Military Training
In 2013, Mark Wahlberg came out with his statement on cursing Tom Cruise. While promoting his movie Lone Survivor, the actor said something that caused quite a stir on the internet. The 51-year-old actor wasn’t happy when there was a comparison made between acting and the military. He said something that many people thought was a jibe at Cruise.
Later, the actor clarified what context he was talking about, and that he wasn’t cursing Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise compared his long shooting hours to serving in Afghanistan
As per reports during a deposition against Bauer Media, Tom Cruise’s attorney compared his long shooting hours to serving in Afghanistan. Many people assumed that this statement was given by Cruise. Right after this statement was made, Mark Wahlberg was asked during a Q&A session about the difficulties that an actor comes across while shooting. To which the actor replied,
“For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh I went to SEAL training,’ and I slept on the I don’t give a f*uk what you did. You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military. How f**ing dare you. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.”
He further added,
“I don’t give a sh*t if you get your ass busted. You get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room. You get to order f**ing chicken. Or your steak. Whatever the f**k it is.”
Right after the Pain & Gain actor’s statement, many Cruise and Wahlberg fans speculated it was Wahlberg’s smart way of grilling Cruise
Mark Wahlberg said he loves Tom Cruise
During one of his interviews, after he had given a statement on the comparison between acting and the military, Wahlberg was asked if he had said that to criticize Cruise. In response to this question, the Father Stu actor said he was not aware that his statement was linked to the Mission Impossible actor. Wahlberg explained that his statement was not referring to Cruise, adding,
“I didn’t know it was Tom Cruise that said that, somebody just mentioned that people were comparing that, you know? I love Tom Cruise.”
The Ted actor appreciated Cruise and said he has a lot of respect and love for him. The actor said,
“I have the utmost respect for Tom Cruise, but I have the utmost respect for military guys, so it’s just unfair for anybody to comment on that.”
There was a lot of buzz about this topic until Wahlberg cleared it up, as many people thought it was the start of a cold war between two Hollywood stars.
