“It’s making fun of dorks”: Joe Rogan Responds to Strange Blacklash Over Margot Robbie’s “Anti-men” Movie ‘Barbie’
Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the main characters, has been significant not just in entertaining people and exposing the world of Barbie, but also in breaking down barriers. The film has outperformed Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One and Oppenheimer but now Joe Rogan has come forward to defend the movie from the backlash.
However, it is inevitable for films like these, which are designed not merely to entertain people but also to remark on societal issues, to become embroiled in controversy or face criticism. Barbie is no exception, as people pointed out that men were not the movie’s intended audience and dubbed the film as ‘anti-men,’ which is not accurate.
Joe Rogan Defends Margot Robbie’s Barbie Against ‘anti-men’ Backlash
Comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan decided to step in and defend the recent release of ace filmmaker Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Ken and Barbie.
Rogan, on his podcast shows the Joe Rogan Experience where Post Malone was the guest, shared that he knows some people who have said that the movie is anti-men which is not adding that the movie is bizarre and fun, and silly. He said,
“A lot of people are upset about the Barbie movie, and I left [the theatre] perplexed. But a lot of it is about the patriarchy, and it’s a comedy, it’s a comedy about dolls. People are upset that it’s this progressive metaphor for life, that they’re pushing progressive politics in this, and I’m like, ‘It’s a f****** doll movie!’ It’s a doll movie. It’s a fun movie about dolls who come to life and try to interact with the real world.”
The comedian went ahead to compare the movie with classic and iconic bands stating that “Why would you go see AC/DC if you hate AC/DC?If you’re into classical music?” noting that the movie was NOT anti-men but instead “making fun of dorks”.
Joe Rogan points out how critics noted that male characters played second fiddle in Barbie
The podcast host further discussed how critics expected it to be a super-woke movie and were upset about the fact that the male characters; Gosling, Simu Liu, and others were playing second fiddle in the movie. He added,
“But it’s also a movie about how Barbies are the dolls that everyone cares about, and Ken is just a f—— accessory, which is real. So when you bring these things into a movie, you make them real life Barbieland, that’s how they have to be, because that’s how it is in the real world.”
He noted that no one had managed to make a movie like this before and there was nothing else one could say towards the end of the movie. He couldn’t understand why people were outraged about what was being shown on-screen. He added, “Are we going to do this thing where we put all men as men, it’s one category, we’re not going to judge people as individuals?”
Joe Rogan mentioned in his podcast that some characters journey outside Barbieland and into the real world, which pretty much sucks and, as everyone knows, is run by men, adding that is why people have labeled the movie as anti-men, which it is not.

Bill Maher labeled Greta Gerwig’s Barbie as ‘anti-men’
Bill Maher decided to take his views onto social media after watching Barbie stating that the movie is not lined up with today’s reality and the message it wants to deliver is somewhat suited to earlier times. He wrote, “I was hoping it wouldn’t be preachy, man-hating, and a #ZombieLie – alas, it was all three.”
Maher continued, “What is a Zombie Lie? Something that never was true, but certain people refuse to stop saying it (tax cuts for the rich increase revenues, e.g.); OR something that USED to be true but no longer is, but certain people pretend it’s still true. Barbie is this kind of #ZombieLie”
He further said Margot Robbie’s Barbie goes to fight the Patriarchy right with the Mattel board, which consists of 12 white men who created her, adding that in real life there are 7 men and 5 women on the board, pointing out that the board is not depicted correctly in the movie. He added, “And not really any longer deserving of the word ‘patriarchy.’ Yes, there was one, and remnants of it remain – but this movie is so 2000-LATE.”
Bill Maher also pointed out that the movie was fun to watch and he enjoyed it. He does not know a single woman now of any age who would act like the woman showcased in Barbie, noting that the director should have stayed true to current reality.
Barbie is now showing in theaters and is expected to hit streaming this fall.
