“It’s my job to love them”: Despite Leaving Tom Cruise for Scientology, Nicole Kidman Reveals Why She Still Cares for Her Children With Top Gun Star Amidst ‘Estrangement’ Rumors
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were one of Hollywood’s infamous couple. Married in 1990, the two decided to adopt kids after Kidman lost a child due to an ectopic pregnancy. However, it was noticed, despite their mutual decision, the couple rarely spoke about their adopted children. After their divorce in 2001, both Kidman and Cruise had their own children with other partners.
After being married for more than a decade, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise barely mentioned their kids in any of their interviews. However, in 2018, the actress spoke out loud about her relationship with the children she adopted with her ex-husband. Making rare comments about her children, Kidman expressed her honest feelings.
Nicole Kidman And Tom Cruise’s Adopted Kids
Meeting on the set of their 1990 movie Days of Thunder, Tom Cruise, and Nicole Kidman married each other within just six months. With their successful career ahead of them, the pair desperately wished for a family. Despite yearning, the couple faced a heartbreaking fate when Kidman experienced an ectopic pregnancy and lost their child. The heartbreaking experience forced the couple to decide on adoption. As a result, the Eyes Wide Shut actors adopted daughter Isabella Jane (born 1992) and son Connor Anthony (born 1995) from the Church of Scientology.
Unfortunately, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise separated in 2001, after the actress filed for a divorce. It was rumored that the couple failed to stay together due to their religious differences that started because of the Church of Scientology. After their divorce, The Northman actress was often spotted with her younger children she adopted with Keith Urban, rather than the ones she adopted with Cruise. Since Isabella and Connor are members of the Church of Scientology, gossip began about her estranged relationship with her children due to the difference in religious beliefs.
Nicole Kidman Expressed Her Love For Her Children
In order to address the rumors and state the facts, Nicole Kidman decided to speak out loud about her children with Tom Cruise in an interview in 2018. Mentioning her relationship with Cruise and their willingness to start a family together, Kidman narrated her difficult pregnancy and miscarriage. “It’s a huge, aching yearning. And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough.” she stated.
Further mentioning how her body failed her in conceiving, she spoke about their decision of adopting. Isabella and Connor’s parents were unable to take care of them, thus, Kidman and Cruise decided on adopting the two. Further initiating the conversation about her relationship with her children, the Bombshell actress spoke purposefully.
“Whether you’re an adoptive mother, whether you’re a foster mother, whether you’re a biological mother — it’s the emotion of attaching to a child and helping to guide them and rear them [that is important].”
Addressing the rumors, The Others actress stated she usually keeps her relationship with her children “very private”. However, feeling the necessity of stating the facts, Kidman shared,
“They are adults, They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists, and as a mother, it’s my job to love them.”
Although Nicole Kidman divorced Cruise for his involvement and adamant nature towards the Church of Scientology, the actress tried to maintain good relations with her children despite differences in religious beliefs.
