Rumors: Thunderbolts is a sequel to Scarlett Johansson’s original Black Widow

The rumors stating that Thunderbolts is a sequel to Black Widow started off when the Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park took on to Instagram to share this news. During the promotion of the new book, The Art of Black Widow, Andy Park confirmed that the upcoming Thunderbolts is and sequel to Scarlett Johansson’s original Black Widow.

Taking on to his Instagram Park wrote “Here’s the back cover portion for the wraparound cover I got to illustrate for THE ART OF BLACK WIDOW! Get your copy today! Taskmaster, the Red Guardian, Yelena AND Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will be returning in the upcoming THUNDERBOLTS film. It’s like it’s a Black Widow sequel & these these movies are connected or something! 😉 It’s gonna get interesting”

This message from the Director of Visual Development of Marvel Studio was enough for spreading rumors regarding the upcoming movie and its storyline.

Director Jake Schreier confirms Thunderbolts is not a sequel to Black Widow

In an interview with Collider Jake Schreier the director of the upcoming MCU movie Thunderbolts confirmed that the movie is not a sequel to 2021 Scarlett Johansson’s original Black Widow. Talking about this Schreier said, “It was just a different approach and a new kind of story to tell amidst that, which I know they’ve made so many things, but it’s not a sequel.”

He also stated that even though many Black Widow stars like Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, and Julia Louis Dreyfus will be seen in the upcoming movie, it is not a sequel to any past movies, especially Black Widow.

Talking about this Jake Schreier said, “Yes, these characters have appeared before, but it is a new story being told and a story, I think, with a very different perspective than maybe people aren’t expecting, and I think that that felt exciting and felt like a real challenge worth taking on.”

As the movie is set to release on December 20, 2024 fans don’t accept anything less than more speculation around the movie considering the long history of MCU marketing strategies.
