“It’s probably gonna be you”: ‘The Boys’ Star Jack Quaid Proved He Has James Gunn’s Eye For Casting After Predicting David Corenswet’s Future as Superman Years Ago
- Jack Quaid revealed that he had auditioned for the role of Superman before.
- That’s when he foresaw David Corenswet as Superman, even before his casting in the movie.
- 'The Boys' actor's earlier audition and prediction shows his casting skills.
James Gunn, who directed the Guardians of the Galaxy films, has a knack for choosing actors who truly become their characters. He’s known for turning lesser-known actors into big stars.
But there’s someone else with a similarly great eye for casting: Jack Quaid, the popular star of Amazon’s hit series The Boys. Seems like he has a real talent for spotting great actors, especially for superhero roles.
Before voicing Clark Kent in the animated series My Adventures with Superman, Quaid tried out for the role in Gunn’s live-action version. Even then, he predicted that David Corenswet would be the next Man of Steel.
Jack Quaid Predicted David Corenswet’s Superman Role Even Before His Casting
Jack Quaid recently shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he auditioned for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. Although David Corenswet landed the role, Quaid’s earlier prediction of Corenswet’s casting is remarkably spot-on.
Quaid shared a story about working on an unsuccessful pilot with Corenswet. Even back then, he noticed something special about him. The 32-year-old actor said:
I didn’t get very far at all. I put myself on tape, and it went nowhere, and that’s fine. Like, that’s totally cool, specifically because, I actually know David Corenswet a little bit. We did a pilot years ago that never went anywhere. But he’s one of those people you meet, and you go, ‘Oh, yeah! Whenever they need another one, it’s probably gonna be you.’ That guy is Superman.
He continued:
I remember getting that audition and being like, ‘Yeah, sure, I’m the voice of Superman in a cartoon, but I don’t really think I fit the bill physically at all.’ And that’s fine, that’s totally cool. But it was cool to audition for something like that.
Even though he didn’t get the role, Quaid’s journey with Superman isn’t finished. His voice work in My Adventures with Superman shows he really gets the character, and maybe one day he’ll play a superhero in a live-action film. However, one thing is for sure: he could definitely make a great casting director.
In the meantime, excitement for Superman is growing. Fans are thrilled with Corenswet’s casting and the film’s strong supporting cast, featuring Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, promising an exciting new chapter for the DC Universe.
James Gunn’s Casting Prowess in and Beyond Guardians of the Galaxy
The Guardians of the Galaxy series shows off James Gunn‘s talent for casting. Chris Pratt, who was mainly known for comedy on TV, became the charming Star-Lord. Zoe Saldana, an experienced actress, discovered a new side of her career playing the serious and fierce Gamora.
And let’s not forget Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as the voices of Rocket Raccoon and Groot, respectively. Their performances, along with the director’s creative storytelling, brought to life characters that audiences around the world love.
Gunn’s knack for picking great actors goes beyond his work with the Guardians of the Galaxy. For instance, he spotted something special in John Cena for the role of Peacemaker in the titular series, and the upcoming Superman is no exception.
Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025!
