“It’s sad. They used to be so close”: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhall Reportedly Ended Their Super-Prankster Friendship after Bitter Feud
Successful and well-known actors Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal, who were once thought of as best friends and were known for their friendship that included playing practical jokes and having fun, are no longer close.
On the set of their 2017 sci-fi thriller Life, the two ex-best friends connected right away. Everyone remembers Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Hugh Jackman for the iconic Christmas Sweater meme, but the actors will sadly not be serving up any more of these memes.
Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal’s fallout is a scratcher for mutual
According to reports by RadarOnline, the two best friends, Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal, are going their separate ways and they barely speak to each other anymore.
The source shared,
“Ryan was something of a mentor to Jake back then. Friends think it was Jake who stepped away to be his own man. It’s sad because they used to be so close.”
During one of his interviews, Reynolds spoke about his friendship with Gyllenhaal and said,
“It’s rare in our industry to meet someone, a contemporary, and there’s no competition. There are just some friends you meet at a certain time in your life.”
According to some reports, the duo who used to be thick as thieves started to cool down once they realized they were competing for the same roles, and Reynolds also got busy with his family with his wife, Blake Lively. Another source added, “Ryan and Jake realized that in Hollywood, there are only so many seats at the table.”
Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal gave fans a faux feud in 2019
The duo, who were known for playing pranks on each other, had taken their practice to social media and fans, as back in 2019 they decided to commemorate Best Friends Day on Instagram in June. But both of them posted pictures with Hugh Jackman while posting a caption for each other and writing ‘not pictured’.
While promoting his 2019 film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, a short while later, Gyllenhaal continued the guise of a feud, telling E! Insider, “As everybody knows, Instagram had its way with our friendship.” When asked what he would like to say to Reynolds, Gyllenhaal mentioned that he has nothing to say to him.
Tom Holland expresses excitement about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3
In 2022, Jackman teamed up with Reynolds to announce that not only would Wade Wilson aka Deadpool be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he would be joined by Wolverine. Just like every other fan, Tom Holland is excited and waiting for Reynolds and Jackman’s Deadpool 3.
During an interview, he was asked if he had ever imagined the actors sharing the same screen as Wolverine and Deadpool. Holland said,
“Yeah, of course, I have. I’m a big fan of both of those guys. I’m sure the film is going to be fantastic. I know they have George Cottle (Jr.) on their side right now as their stunt coordinator and second unit director. You couldn’t ask for a better guy. So I’m very excited about the film. I wish them all the best and I can’t wait to see those two go at it.”
Reynolds will still be able to improvise lines in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film by Marvel Studios, according to co-creator of Deadpool, Robert Liefeld. The ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike has put an end to the rumors that the actor was unable to improvise while filming.
Reynolds could do ADR (Additional Dialogue Replacement) work to change some of his lines once Deadpool 3 was in post-production after the WGA and studio reached a fair agreement to end the strike, according to Liefeld. Reynolds’ first appearance as Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
