Denis Villeneuve is a legendary director in the entertainment industry. He directed the 2015 thriller Sicario, starring Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin. Villeneuve didn’t return to the 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which reunited Del Toro and Brolin. As news of Sicario comes up, fans are hoping for the director to return to helm the new installment.

In an interview, Sicario 3 producer Basil Iwanyk confirmed the film making it on the big screen. He told The Messenger,

“When we can continue writing it. It was pencils down, but the idea is awesome. I can’t wait for Sicario 3. I could watch Benicio play that guy forever. I mean, I can watch Benicio in anything, but with that character, it doesn’t get old.”

Even actor Brolin, who played Matt Graver in both installments, has previously confirmed possible plans for another sequel. When asked by fans if they should ditch the hope for a third film in the series, the actor said (Via THR)

“No! I just don’t know when we’ll do it. We may be 80. (Laughs.) But it’s very much at the forefront of all of our minds. It’s been written, and it’s been rewritten. So it’s out there. We think it deserves a third one if we can make it in the way that we want to make it. So don’t give up.”

As the strikes in the Hollywood industry end, there is hope for the script-writing process of Sicario 3 to recommence. It is just a matter of time before the confirmation of whether Denis Villeneuve returns for the threequel comes out. Fans are hoping for the director to return to helm the third film, whose working title is Sicario: Capos, which translates to Hitman: Bosses.

The 2015 Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve, followed the tale of Alejandro Gillick, played by Benicio del Toro, a former Mexican prosecutor turned assassin who leads a CIA task group to kill the head of a Mexican drug gang. The film was written by Taylor Sheridan and had an ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Villeneuve’s action thriller film collected $84.2 million at the worldwide box office, against a production budget of $30 million. It was successful at the box office, leading to the development of a sequel.

Unfortunately, Stefano Sollima took over directorial duties for the 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. The film reunited Del Toro and Brolin and further investigated the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border, with Sheridan again penning the script.

Sicario is available to stream free on Peacock. Sicario: Day of the Soldado is available to stream on Hulu with the subscription.
