The 36-year-old began his career for fame in 2005 when he landed the role of Cedric Diggory in the fourth installment of the Harry Potter franchise, where he quickly become a popular choice. However, earlier Pattinson admitted to fabricating stories about being a member of the royal family to gain recognition in Hollywood when he first arrived in Los Angeles.

The Twilight superstar allegedly lied on his resume in a bid to land acting roles before he shot to fame as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise.

According to the model, he struggled to find work in the industry and spent three years unemployed in London before moving to Los Angeles in search of opportunities.

He was so desperate to impress potential employers that Pattinson resorted to fabricating information, pretending to have attended London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He told the media that it’s easy to convince people that you are from the royal family. He stated,

“I’ve been at RADA with Prince William, And they’re like Oh that sounds wonderful! You’re English, I completely believe you.”

The British actor admitted that he never actually interacted with any members of the monarchy. Nevertheless, he pretended to know them whenever he visited the US, as reported by Contactmusic.

“I don’t think I’ve ever met them. I used to tell people when I came to the States that I did. They believed me. Five or six years ago when I first used to come to Los Angeles there weren’t many English people, now there are like a million and people still believe me.”

Pattinson now finds it amusing that people believe his tall tales. However, in a 2022 interview with GQ magazine, he revealed that he sometimes says things in interviews that are pure lies.

Pattinson has been caught out in numerous lies over the years, with some of his more outrageous statements going viral. The actor has even admitted that he sometimes makes things up in interviews, leading to some truly absurd answers.

During a 2012 interview with the Chicago Tribune, he claimed that his signature hairstyle was the result of “years and years of accumulated residue from not washing”. To add to the shock factor, he also admitted to not cleaning his apartment.

The Batman star has been known for telling lies not just in interviews, but also in castings. His accent was a cause for concern for producers because it seemed to change every day. Pattinson would show up and speak like a different person, claiming to be an American from various states such as Michigan.

One person who was not fooled by Pattinson’s lies was director Christopher Nolan. During the audition for the role of Batman, which Pattinson eventually landed, he had to keep everything a secret. So, he lied to Nolan and said that he had a family emergency that he needed to attend to. He explained,

“I had to keep everything about ‘Batman’ a secret, so I had to lie to Nolan when I went for an audition. I told him I had a family emergency. And, as soon as I said ‘it’s a family emergency,’ he said, ‘You’re going to cast ‘Batman,’ right?”

Despite his lies, Pattinson remains a popular figure in Hollywood, largely due to his charming personality.
