Jada Smith Was Rejected As Will Smith’s Love Interest In ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Due To A Lack Of Chemistry
Jada Pinkett and Will Smith got hitched in 1997. Three years prior, when they first met, it was not love at first sight—at least not for Red Table Talk’s host. Now, it’s difficult to consider one without the other, especially in light of the situations that the couple has recently found themselves in.
However, following her Fresh Prince of Bel-Air audition, the mother of two was not in the mood to fall for the King Richard star.
Was she chosen to play the part opposite her actor husband in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Yes, almost!
In 1994, Pinkett Smith went through the casting process to play the Emancipation actor’s girlfriend on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But she was rejected. And the explanation given was that there was no chemistry because of their height differences.
The role of Smith’s love interest wasn’t given to her on the show, but it would eventually be given to her later in real life. However, Nia Long eventually won the part in the fifth season of the program.

Jada Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Audition
Will Smith’s portrayal of the show’s title character, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, helped launch his acting career. The show ran from 1990 to 1996.
The 54-year-old American actor-rapper’s role as a fictionalized version of himself in the American sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air served as his big break as an actor. The show even supported the careers of up-and-coming stars during its six-year run by including a number of celebrity cameos and guests.
And, Jada Pinkett Smith (who at the time simply went by Jada Pinkett) was nearly to be added to the list of one of those future famous people. Young actresses were sought out for the role of Will Smith’s on-screen girlfriend during filming for the fifth season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Audition.
For the part of Lisa’s character, Jada Pinkett Smith appeared at an audition. However, she was turned down because her chemistry with Will Smith hadn’t gotten along well, in addition to their differences in height. Ironically, they were still together three years later, were married, and had two kids.
Nia Long, who is a whopping 2 inches taller than Jada, was chosen to play Will Smith’s girlfriend in the end.

And The Couple Have Been Together Ever Since
Even though Jada Pinkett was deeply in love with Will Smith, getting married wasn’t something she was particularly looking forward to, which may surprise some of their fans. According to reports, she discussed her emotional turmoil before the ceremony during an episode of The Red Table Talk.
“I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so pissed. I went crying down the freakin’ aisle getting married.”
Later, she made it clear that her feelings had nothing to do with her husband and were instead, motivated by her dislike of “conventional marriage.”
“Will is my life partner and I could not ask for a better one. I adore him, I never want people to think it was Will I didn’t want to marry… But I can assure you that some of the most powerful women in the world feel caged and tied, because of the sacrifices they have to make to be in that position.”
Many fans are interested in ‘The Smiths’ because of their recent brush with controversy (being in conventional marriage) and want to see them recover and become even better than before. If anyone could make it happen, it would only be Will and Jada Smith.
