Another Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rumour is debunked by James Gunn, this time involving Moondragon. Gunn is now working on the third Guardians of the Galaxy feature, which will be both his final entry in the franchise and the final film for this iteration of the team. The film is scheduled to debut in theatres on May 5, 2023, six years after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Daniela Melchior, who played Ratcatcher II in James Gunn’s last film The Suicide Squad, was just announced to have been cast in a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Rumours about who Melchoir will play in the upcoming MCU film began to circulate shortly after the casting announcement. One popular notion is that she will play Moondragon, a character created by Bill Evertt, Mike Freidrich, and George Tuska and first presented in the comics in 1973. Moondragon is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics, as well as the daughter of Drax.

The rumours were swiftly debunked by James Gunn.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writers and director clarified on Twitter that he was not disputing Melchoir’s presence in the ensemble, but that she was never cast as Moondragon specifically. While Gunn states that Melchoir will not be playing Moondragon, he does not state that Moondragon will not be in the film, leaving the possibility open.

We’ll Have To Wait For The Film’s Release To Find Out Who Melchoir Is Playing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Gunn is referring to the claims that Melchoir was cast as Moondragon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in October 2021, to which the director answered that they were untrue. The incorrect assertion did not refer to Melchoir’s involvement in the film, but rather to her connection to the play Moondragon. While the filmmaker has not ruled out the possibility of Moondragon appearing in the film, she will be played by a different actress if she does. Gunn appears to be keeping this role a mystery, much like he did with Will Poulter’s casting as Adam Warlock before it was revealed.

Melchoir might still play a Marvel character, although an obscure one, as was the case with the original comics version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which was represented by Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rosenbaum, Ving Rhames, Michelle Yeoh, and Miley Cyrus in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. To find out who Melchoir is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans will have to wait for the film’s release.
