As the date of their next release, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, this 22nd is getting closer, James Gunn shares his upcoming project with the DC Studios. Gunn joined DC in November 2022 and is currently part of the DC Cinematic Universe along with Peter Safran, while both carrying their separate projects alongside working with the current company.

James has actively been sharing updates and hints for his coming projects with DC on his Instagram page to excite fans’ anticipation which might turn up against MCU’s upcoming projects’ successes.

James Gun joined DC Cinematic Universe last year and since then he has frequently been sharing content from DC comics and DC Studios, updating fans about their upcoming projects.

He recently shared the release date of Superman: Legacy which is scheduled to be released on 11th July 2025 on his Instagram. The film will be written and directed by Gunn which will be his second film directed in the DC Cinematic Universe.

In the caption, James wrote :

“Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025.

James is currently the Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios along with Peter Safran. His first film directed for DC was “The Suicide Squad” in 2021.

Other than Superman: Legacy, Gunn is creating and writing DC Studios’ upcoming adult-animated television series, Creature Commandos. The series is based on DC Comics featuring the ‘eponymous team’ and is expected to be released in 2024. 

James has also worked on DC’s current television series Peacemaker, which started streaming last year on HBO Max. The series is based on a DC Comics character by the same name.

James Gunn’s first collaboration with Marvel Cinematic Universe was in 2014 with his film Guardians of the Galaxy, after which he made two sequels of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2 (2017) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.3 in 2023

Gunn was fired from the MCU after his controversial posts on #Metoo movements in the entertainment industry. Then, DC invited him to direct The Suicide Squad (2021), post its disappointing first installment in 2016.

Later, Marvel invited Gunn back to direct the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and also its television spin-off for Disney+Hotstar, as a Disney+Special. Post the two successful projects with MCU James returned and continued to work with DC.
