James Gunn Announced The Reboot Of Superman
The renowned writer, James Gunn, has just dropped a major bombshell regarding the iconic superhero, Superman.
In a recent announcement, Gunn revealed that he will be taking command of the upcoming reboot of the Henry Cavill, signaling a new chapter in the DC Comics cinematic universe.
Fans of the superhero have been eagerly anticipating any news about the upcoming film, Superman Legacy, which is set to feature a fresh take on the beloved character.
With the confirmation that the movie is in early pre-production, efforts to create costumes, design sets, and establish other aspects of the movie’s production are now up and running.
Co-CEO of DC Studios expressed his excitement about being a part of the Superman legacy, saying.
“I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy? Costumes, production design, and more are now up and running.”
Director also shared some additional details about Superman’s Legacy. He confirmed that he will not reveal the actor who will play Superman anytime soon. Gunn stated that a casting announcement will not be made in April or May, but potentially in June.
He had previously announced that a casting search is already underway. While some fans have speculated that a casting announcement will be made at San Diego Comic-Con in July but Gunn did not respond to this speculation.
He also clarified that Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of DC Studios, is not involved in giving notes to the filmmaker and his team for Superman Legacy as they are different units. Lastly, Gunn restated that the entire script for Superman Legacy is now complete, but it is always possible that changes will be made during production.
Henry Cavill Is Out As Superman In The Upcoming Movie
DC Comics fans were excited to hear the news that Henry Cavill would return to the role of Superman in the upcoming movie. However, this excitement was short-lived, as it was later revealed that the actor would not be reprising his role as the iconic superhero.
The focus of the upcoming film will be a younger Superman, and a different actor will take on the role. Executive officer of DC Studios has confirmed that the upcoming film, Superman Legacy, will focus on a young Clark Kent working as a reporter on Daily Planet.
Gunn expressed his admiration for Cavill, calling him a “great guy” and admitting that he was a fan of the actor. Unfortunately, he revealed that Cavill is getting “dicked around by a lot of people,” including people who were formerly in charge of the DC movie universe.
However, he did reveal that he had a great meeting with The Flash player and that they discussed exciting possibilities to work together in the future. Gunn explained,
“In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about several exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”
Superman Legacy is set to release on July 11, 2025, and while there is no word yet on who will direct the movie, fans can look forward to Gunn’s upcoming Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is set to release in May.
