James Gunn made a statement on p*dophilia and r*pe in his Tweets
James Gunn’s Tweets that sparked outrage for years were decades old. Between 2008 and 2011, these tweets were sent out. Gunn had made offensive statements about r*pe, p*dophilia, and about people with AIDS. These Tweets were on sensitive topics and people criticized Gunn for joking about such topics in his Tweets in an offensive way.
People took to social media to demand that Disney, which owns Marvel Studios, terminate the filmmaker and writer. The constant pressure and offensive tweets by Gunn compelled Disney to sever ties with him. Walt Disney Studio’s chairman Alan Horn said in a statement,
“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
Disney’s decision against Gunn came as a shock to many people in Hollywood. Gunn’s career was ruined as a filmmaker after Disney parted ways from him.
James Gunn apologized for the offensive Tweets in a statement
The director of the film Super apologized to the public and presented his side of the story. He emphasized that whatever statements he made in the past were all in humor, and he apologized. Gunn said in his apology statement,
“Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”
He further added,
“In the past, I have apologized for humor of mine that hurt people. I truly felt sorry and meant every word of my apologies.”
Many people, including r*pe victims, social workers, and netizens, criticized his Tweets. Many individuals believed his statements were terrible since he mocked people who were victims of crimes and disease. His Tweet on r*pe which was posted in 2009 said,
“The best thing about being r*ped is when you’re done being r*ped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being r*ped!”
Gunn’s other Tweets made sarcastic remarks on the 9/11 tragedy, AIDS, and the horrors of the Holocaust. Another told about a monkey ma*turbating on a little child and how it made him “extremely happy.” Later, the director deleted all the offensive Tweets.
