James McCaffrey had been trained at the Actor’s Studio and his first role was that of a mentally challenged teen in Bill II: on His Own: The Bill Sackter Story. He went on to star in several direct-to-video movies before venturing into television. His breakthrough came with a role in the Fox procedural, New York Undercover which was only seven episodes long.
Later, McCaffrey got the recurring role of Captain Arthur O’Byrne in the third season of the same show. The next show that he played a leading role in is the action-adventure TV series Viper. The show was originally meant to be a one-off series but was revived for three more seasons after two years with McCaffrey returning in the fourth and last season.
While there is not much information available about the late actor’s net worth, it is an estimated $3.7 million according to TV Guide. He also seemed to be a very private person so the only thing known about his family is that he is survived by his wife Rochelle Bostrom and their daughter, Tiernan.
In addition to his work as an on-screen actor, James McCaffrey was also a voice actor who lent his voice to famous video game characters like the titular character of the Max Payne video game trilogy, and Thomas Zane for the action-adventure game Alan Wake.

On December 18, it was reported that James McCaffrey had died at the age of 65 on Sunday after a battle with cancer. TMZ which first broke the news had reported that the actor was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. His wife actress Rochelle Bostrom revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he had passed away at his home in Larchmont, New York.
The only thing that might be of some relief to McCaffrey’s fans is that he was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his death according to what his manager told Deadline. His soul may rest in peace.
