SUMMARY
  • Tron: Ares is set to compete with Challengers through its soundtrack.
  • Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the music for Tron: Ares.
  • Disney hopes Tron: Ares’ soundtrack matches the first film’s success.

Two of Hollywood’s biggest films, Tron: Ares and Challengers, are set to collide, but not on the big screen. The real competition is their soundtracks, with two award-winning composers, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, leading the charge for Joachim Rønning’s flick.

Even though Zendaya’s Challengers already has a strong soundtrack, Tron: Ares is here to make a big impact too. Disney announced Friday at D23 that Nine Inch Nails, led by Reznor, will create the music for this sci-fi film.

Remember how Daft Punk’s music for Tron: Legacy amazed everyone? Disney hopes to match that with Tron: Ares. With Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross creating the soundtrack, they’re not just hoping for greatness—they’re going for something truly legendary.

Reznor and Ross’s industrial style will match the movie’s intense feel, giving us a new sound that’s different from Daft Punk’s electronic beats in the original Tron.

For those unaware, Reznor started Nine Inch Nails (NIN) in the late 1980s as a hard rock band with a unique industrial sound. Even though he did all the music himself, he brought in different people to perform live. In the 1990s, NIN became very famous and won Grammys for songs like Wish and Happiness in Slavery.

In 2010, Reznor began making film music with Ross, starting with The Social Network. The duo has created music for movies and projects like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Challengers.

Their recent work on Challengers is a real masterpiece—just as unique as the story. Instead of blending music smoothly, the film uses a surprising combination of classical and electronic dance music (EDM). But it looks like the Tron sequel is ready to compete with Challengers—same composers, but a different idea. So, with them working on Tron, everyone’s really excited to hear what they create.

Tron: Ares looks amazing with stunning visuals and Jared Leto leading a fantastic cast. The music by Reznor and Ross will make it sound great, too. Directed by Joachim Rønning, known for Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean, the film is now finished. Jeff Bridges said on D23 stage (via Variety):

Technology and AI is omnipresent in our of our lives. What a perfect time to revisit this world. Or, have this world visit us, because that’s what happens in this movie.

The movie will bring us back into the digital world again, featuring Leto as the menacing program Ares. Bridges, who starred in the original 1982 film, returns as Kevin Flynn. The film also stars Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Hasan Minhaj.

Tron: Ares is set to release in theatres in October 10, 2025!
