Jason Momoa Reportedly Did His Best to Get Amber Heard Fired from Aquaman 2 But Elon Musk Forced DC to Keep Her
Jason Momoa is undoubtedly one of the best actors in Hollywood. Having made his acting debut in the action drama series Baywatch: Hawaii, he is most known for his roles in the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, the DC Extended Universe superhero movie Aquaman, and the epic sci-fi movie Dune.
Jason Momoa reprised his role as Arthur Curry in the second installment of the Aquaman movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He is set to star in the movie alongside Amber Heard’s character Mera, The Queen of Atlantis and wife of Arthur Curry. Allegedly, Momoa in an intoxicated state tried to get Heard fired from the movie.
Jason Momoa’s Attempt To Get Amber Heard Fired
Amber Heard’s much-publicized trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp in which the latter prevailed affected her career adversely as directors and producers seemed unwilling to hire her due to her bad reputation. The continuous backlash from netizens also played a key role in Heard’s downfall.
As if there wasn’t already enough drama around Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, due to the Depp-Heard defamation trial, of course, right on the day of the trailer’s release, some documents from the trial surfaced on Reddit. Variety reports that these documents were acquired by Johnny Depp’s fans from Amber Heard’s therapist Dr. Dawn Hughes.
According to the notes, Jason Momoa allegedly showed up drunk and dressed like Johnny Depp and tried his best to get Heard fired. While the actor himself has refused to comment, a DC spokesperson insisted that it was definitely not the case as Momoa behaved in a professional manner at all times.
An insider who was present on the set on the date mentioned in the notes also said that they got along and his dressing style is Bohemian so it has nothing to do with Depp. The aforementioned notes also suggested that director James Wan was partial to the actress and made her feel unsupported.
Elon Musk Prevented Amber Heard From Getting Fired
It is true that Amber Heard was almost fired from the movie but the reason was most probably not her co-star Jason Momoa. Argumentations from both sides have confirmed that post the release of Aquaman in 2018, Wan and DC Studios were planning to fire the actress due to the lack of chemistry between her and Jason Momoa.
The decision was not in any way influenced by the trial or the Fast actor for that matter. This is where Heard’s ex-boyfriend Elon Musk stepped in and made one of his litigators send a, as Variety writes, “scorched-earth letter to Warner Bros. threatening to burn the house down.”
This did not leave Warner Bros. with much of an option. Consequently, it continued with the franchise with Amber Heard playing the role of Mera. Whether or not all these allegations are true cannot be judged as it is hard to tell which one of these insiders is actually speaking the truth.
The new CEOs of DC Films James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to reboot the superhero franchise post the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 20, 2023.
