Can you believe Jennifer Love Hewitt was only 18 when she filmed I Know What You Did Last Summer? Back in 1997, Hewitt was just a teen when she signed on to play Julie James, one of the movie’s main characters.

The film quickly became a huge hit, making Hewitt a household name and turning her into one of the biggest stars of the ’90s. But when she filmed the movie, she wasn’t some seasoned veteran.

Her first major studio film role was in Sister Act 2, but Hewitt was just a regular teenager trying to make her mark in Hollywood. The star herself said:

I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me. All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything. And I root for her and Freddie. I think it’s the cutest thing in the world that they’ve been married for 100 years and have kids. It’s like adorable. So it’s just been really funny to see all of this stuff.

It’s crazy to think how much Hewitt’s career took off after that. Aside from I Know What You Did Last Summer, she also starred in the popular TV shows Party of Five and Ghost Whisperer and went on to have a successful career in both TV and film. But all of that started with a killer slasher film and a role that turned her into an overnight star.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is coming back for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot! After more than 25 years since the original movie came out, Hewitt is returning to her role as Julie James in a new film. And guess who’s joining her? None other than Freddie Prinze Jr., who played her love interest Ray Bronson in the first movie.

That’s right—the original duo is back! The actress made the announcement on Instagram in December 2024, posting a mysterious photo of herself looking into a mirror with the words, “I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER,” written on sticky notes attached to the mirror.

In her caption, she confirmed, writing:

It’s never too late to go back. Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer!

This reboot has been in the works for some time, with rumors swirling that Hewitt was in talks to return to the role. But now, it’s official: Julie is coming back to face whatever dangers await her. And it’s not just Hewitt and Prinze Jr. who are returning.

This time around, we’ll also get a new group of actors to join the cast and bring some fresh faces to the story. In the original, Julie and Ray were just trying to survive after being stalked by a mysterious killer who knew about their deadly secret.

But this new movie will likely have its own twists and turns. Fans are hoping for some similar scares and surprises, but with a whole new generation of characters involved. So, what does this mean for the plot? Of course, there will probably be a lot of suspense, jump scares, and maybe even some blood—because what’s a good slasher movie without that?

Who else is in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast?

We’ve got Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. coming back to reprise their roles, but who else is joining the cast of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer? Well, get ready!

In addition to the returning stars, the new movie will feature some exciting new talent. Some of the actors joining the cast include Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.

We’re sure they’ll fit right in with the suspense and drama that fans have come to expect from the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise.

Madelyn Cline, in particular, has been making a name for herself recently, especially with her role in the Netflix series Outer Banks. She’s definitely someone to watch in this reboot. And Tyriq Withers, who is relatively new to the scene, is already creating hype for his role in the movie.

There’s also speculation that we might see some familiar faces from the original film making cameos, though nothing is confirmed yet. Will Sarah Michelle Gellar (Helen Shivers) or Ryan Phillippe (Barry William Cox) pop up? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s always fun to imagine what could happen.

I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025!
