Jeremy Renner, Star Of Hawkeye, Reveals Which MCU Film He Will Never Watch Again
Jeremy Renner, the actor of Hawkeye, has shared which MCU movie he’ll never watch again:
Actor Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU, has revealed which Marvel Cinematic Universe film he will never watch again. Renner has been playing Marvel superhero Clint Barton/Hawkeye for almost a decade, appearing in Thor, Captain America: Civil War, and three Avengers films. With the release of the first two episodes of the Hawkeye Disney+ series this week, the character is finally receiving the attention he deserves. Renner co-stars in the series with Hailee Steinfeld as fan favorite Kate Bishop, and it marks Marvel Studios’ fourth live-action series to enter the streaming service this year. Though Hawkeye has played an important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was given the most to do in the Infinity Saga climax, Avengers: Endgame. Throughout the film, Clint goes through a number of emotional ups and downs. It starts with him losing his whole family as a result of Thanos erasing half of all life, which sets Clint on a dark road as he takes up the mantle of the violent vigilante, Ronin. Clint tries to donate his life in return for the Soul Stone after rejoining the Avengers, but Natasha Romanoff stops him and sacrifices herself instead. Clint is left mourning the deaths of Natasha and Tony Stark, while being glad that their efforts brought his family back to him.
Renner confirmed in an interview with BBC Radio 1 that he saw Endgame and that he would not watch it again:
Renner recently told BBC Radio 1 that he viewed Avengers: Endgame at its premiere, but he has no plans to see it again. He goes on to express how incredible the experience of witnessing the film was, and how it left him and his fellow Avengers cast members in tears. Read the whole of Renner’s comments below.
“I saw it during the premiere, but that was simply something for all of us to enjoy.” We were all laughing and crying at the same time, and it was a lot. That’s something I’ll never see again. It was a harrowing experience. We were all a bawling mess, but now we’re laughing. It’s incredible; we were treated as though we were audience members, which was a thrilling experience. That was a fantastic, amazing experience to share.
Renner’s reluctance to rewatch Endgame is understood. Here’s why:
Renner’s reluctance to return to Avengers: Endgame is unsurprising. The film is a huge, viscerally emotional experience for the audience. One would think that having worked on the film and had a vital role in the universe building up to that climax moment would only add to its potency and intrigue. Not to mention, Renner is a working actor with a busy schedule, so he probably doesn’t have much time to revisit old films in the first place. Though Avengers: Endgame may have signaled the end of the road for characters such as Black Widow and Iron Man, Hawkeye’s future in the MCU appears to be brighter than ever. With the Hawkeye series premiering this week, Marvel fans are getting to know the character better than ever before. By putting the character in a starring position like this, Marvel may be preparing Renner for a greater role in the future. In the same interview, he added that he would want to see Hawkeye take on a larger leadership position in the MCU in the future. Renner clearly enjoys portraying this role, so Hawkeye fans should have a lot to look forward to.
