Now that the catchphrase is still alive, many might wonder about its emergence and how John Cena came up with such an iconic line. Well, this has an interesting story to it! According to WWE, the actor revealed that while his brother was messing around with him regarding Cena’s album titled the same name, Sean challenged his elder brother to use it during a wrestling match. The actor said:

“The ‘You Can’t See Me’ thing was a joke from my little brother… This stupid song came on, we started dancing around, and my brother Sean did this dance from a video where he moves his head around his hands.”

Accepting the challenge, John Cena started using it against his opponents in the ring, but before that, he modified it by including a gesture where he shook his hand around his face, expressing his invisibility.

Soon after this gesture was on the internet, the meme world was blessed with another hilarious meme with the face of John Cena and a text saying, “You Can’t See Me.” Since then, the joke has been widely recognized and has become John Cena’s most iconic catchphrase.
