Johnny Depp’s Favorite Superhero is from $859M Marvel Movie: “There was this strange double edge to this guy”
Throughout his career, actor Johnny Depp has played several iconic roles, but the actor hasn’t played any character from a comic book so far. The actor once revealed that he is a huge fan of one character from Marvel Comics, years before that character made its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Not a lot of people know that Depp almost played the role of Riddler in a Batman movie in the early 2000s. However, the actor quickly addressed the rumors claiming that he won’t play a good Riddler. There were also speculations that Depp will play the role of Dr. Strange in the MCU but Benedict Cumberbatch took over.
Johnny Depp revealed his favorite Marvel character
Back in 2011, in an interview with Hero Complex, actor Johnny Depp revealed that he is a fan of Namor, also known as the Sub-Mariner. The actor said,
“I was a rock ‘n’ roll kid, mainly, but prior to age 12, when the rock ‘n’ roll sort of took hold, I was a comic-book head. Namor is great. There was this strange double edge to the guy. And there was also something about living underwater that I liked a lot.”
Namor was recently introduced to the MCU as actor Tenoch Huerta played the role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The actor almost played the role of Riddler
In the 2000s, there were speculations that Depp will play the role of Riddler in a potential Dark Knight sequel. However, the actor addressed the rumors himself stating,
“I would certainly not turn it down right away, but I’m not sure I could do it justice. Especially after how well Heath did as The Joker, I think my playing Riddler would be a step back for the films. But hey, never say never.”
As per sources, the actor even wanted to play the role of Batman in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, but it didn’t work out.
The actor was also rumored to be playing Doctor Strange
Back in 2014, a lot of actors were rumored to be auditioning to play the role of Stephen Strange. Depp was one of them. Multiple media outlets made these claims until Kevin Feige addressed these rumors himself,
“No, no. When you have a project that’s been around as long as Doctor Strange, there is sometimes, ‘Oh, I’ve met with Stan about this! Or I did that!’ So Strange is one of those projects that predates me by a long shot. Obviously, the character does, but even in its cinematic brewing. So there are a lot of things that have happened before me, and I’ve been here 14 years. So that’s a long time ago. I don’t know if that happened then.”
Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was then selected to play the role. Doctor Strange was introduced in MCU in 2016 after the release of Doctor Strange.
