Joker 2 Reportedly Forcing Crew Members to Inhuman Bathroom Breaks, Extras Complaining They Have To Give Proper Explanation Why it’s a ‘Pee Emergency’
Director Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux movie crew reportedly found themselves in an unpleasant situation during filming. According to reports, film extras are complaining about the bathroom breaks as they have to wait a long time and also explain the urgency of taking a pee break to creators if they must go immediately. However, fans are eager to know what led to the creators taking such inhumane measures and limiting bathroom breaks for extras on the set of Joker 2.
However, this is not the first time that crew members have complained about such treatment while working on the set of the movie Joker. Previously, a similar incident occurred during the making of Joker part 1 in 2018, when the extras were reportedly forced to pee on subway tracks. So let’s explore the rationale behind the strict measures taken by the creators regarding extra crew members.
Joker 2 Film Extras Complain About Long Waits For Bathroom Breaks
TMZ reported that things are getting tough for extras on the set of the Joker 2 film as they have been required to limit their bathroom breaks during the filming process. There is a report that the unit has become furious over the lack of accessibility to the bathroom and has been asked to reduce drinking water consumption. The sources told TMZ that film extras have been complaining about working over two hours non-stop at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank and not being permitted to use the bathroom or drink water more frequently.
TMZ reported that pee problems typically occur during camera setups, lasting between 20 minutes to an hour, which is difficult for filmmakers to handle such long breaks. As a result, background actors called extras fear being penalized if they ask more frequently to use the restroom because some extras have already been reprimanded.
A source from the set of the movie told the outlet that one of the extras had to use the bathroom urgently between camera setups but first had to explain the urgency to the assistant director why it was necessary. In addition, the assistant director committed another inhuman act when the same extra returned to the set; he was asked about the cup of water in his hand, “Why are you drinking more water? Do you need to pee again?”
According to TMZ, the shoot was anticipated to last for five weeks. For extras, there is a lot of money and regular work on the table during a usually slow time in Hollywood, which is why some wish to refrain from raising eyebrows over the matter.
A Similar Problem Occurred On The Set Of Joker Movie Part 1 In 2018
In 2018, a similar incident of inhuman bathroom breaks occurred during the filming of Joker part 1. There are reports by TMZ that a group of extras was locked in a subway car during the shoot without access to a bathroom. Many extras ended up peeing directly on the subway tracks after being denied bathroom breaks for several hours. Undoubtedly, this was an uncomfortable situation for all parties involved, and the studio had launched an investigation into the matter by that time.
Upon becoming aware of the situation, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) sent a representative to investigate and continue to monitor the set. A Warner Bros. studio investigation was also initiated in response to the complaints. In the current instance, during Joker 2 filming, SAG received a complaint regarding a break time violation and investigated and spoke with production.
After the successful 2019 origin story directed by Todd Phillips and co-written by Scott Silver, actor Joaquin Phoenix reprises the titular role in Joke: Folie à Deux. With an Instagram post teasing the sequel’s title, the director confirmed the Joker sequel in June 2022. Along with Joaquin Phoenix, several prominent actors will appear in the film, including Lady Gaga, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, and Zazie Beetz. Warner Bros is scheduled to release the film on October 4, 2024.
