It’s been recently found out that the upcoming Joker movie that surrounds the origin of the villain won’t reveal much of his actual origin. Many hardcore fans of the villain know that there isn’t a particular story regarding his origin, with many different perspectives on his transition to a villain. One key element around his origin story was how he fell into a huge vat of chemicals, which gave him his complexion and thus transformed him into Gotham City’s maniacal crime lord.

Director Todd Phillips On Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker’s Origin

However, in Joker, Joaquin Phoenix plays the protagonist role of Arthur Fleck, who’s failure in comedy and other aspects in his life drives him into a slow descent into madness. Todd Phillips, the director of the film, recently confirmed that there would be no role of chemicals in his origin film.

“He doesn’t fall into a vat of acid and come out laughing,” Phillips said in a recent interview. “That’s a comic book thing.”

The film will significantly deviate from the comic book version of the Joker, who’s primary origin device was falling into a vat of chemicals

Almost everyone who is involved with Joker has made it clear that the film is not aligned with the comic book version of the film. Most of those who are working with the film have often spoken out against their dislike for comic book movies.

Emma Tillinger Koskoff, the producer for the film, typically works alongside with Martin Scorsese on his movies. She recently admitted that these kinds of movies don’t come under her usual preference.

“It’s not my preferred genre, the comic book genre,” Koskoff said. “I literally can’t watch those movies. I try, but I can’t. I should, but I can’t. But I love this movie. Even if I didn’t work on this movie, I would love this movie.”
