Netflix’s Daredevil received a positive response from the critics and audience at the time and in no time became a fan favorite character. But after the third season, the streaming giant decided to cancel the show, disappointing not only the fans but the actors as well. After Disney regained the license for the Marvel series in 2022, Cox and D’Onofrio reprised their roles in MCU projects. The studios shared the first look at the upcoming series and fans are excited for a familiar face’s return to the show.

ScreenRant describes that the first look shows that a lot has changed since Daredevil’s season three finale, and one of the major factors is how far Daredevil has come in his crime-fighting career. Plus, the teaser was described as ‘violent’, which also showcases a brief interaction between Matt Murdock and Frank Castle. The Punisher shows up in a long-haired ruffian look in fistcuffs. Fans are very excited for the actor to return to the character who shared about his return (via X account),

It’s a real honor, and I couldn’t be up here with better people. I’m really excited. Thank you.

Previously in his interview with Collider, the actor shared that there is a reason why the character of Punisher has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has. Bernthal, who was seen on Hulu’s The Bear, added that the character has stayed in the hearts and minds of comic book fans, first responders, and people in the military and worldwide.

Jon Bernthal noted that there is a Frank Castle in everyone and explained that he exists very strongly inside him and he cares about the character deeply. He mentioned that he’d do his absolute best to make sure that when he returns, they do it the right way. The recent teaser showcased an appearance from The Marvels star Mohan Kapur as Kamala Khan’s father, Yusuf.

Marvel Studios producer Brad Winderbaum compares Daredevil live-action to animated X-Men ’97

Brad Winderbaum appeared on The Official Marvel podcast, where he stated that Cox’s series has some resemblance to X-Men ’97. He said,

Daredevil is incredible. It’s similar in some way to X-Men ’97 because it’s reviving something that the fans love. But it’s taking a new direction. These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was. Things have changed. Society’s changed.

The producer further stated that Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have changed, noting that their characters are going to collide in a way the audience has never seen before. Winderbaum mentioned that it’s not enough for them to murder each other.

Charlie Cox had previously shared (via ComicBook) when asked about creative overhaul that the studios have been incredibly open-minded and willing to correct course and be supportive. He added that they were trying something that was a bit different, and very quickly they were able to understand that it might not be working the way they thought it would.

At the Expo, Kevin Feige also announced that Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is in the works and will start production soon. The show will consist of 18 episodes and is expected to premiere in March 2025.
