Jonah Hill is Still Heartbroken for Losing 1 Dream Role to Justin Timberlake Despite Studio Demanding to Cast the Actor
Jonah Hill is one of the most popular comedy actors of his generation and later also transitioned to serious roles to avoid being typecast. His serious arc started with 2011’s baseball drama Moneyball, which earned him his first Oscar nomination. He again bagged an Oscar nomination in 2013 for his fantastic role in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street.
Many may not know this but Jonah Hill would have gone for the acting transition in 2010 had this one dream role worked out for him and he was not upstaged by Justin Timberlake. It is a heartbreak that he carries to this day and once one hears about it, they will understand why.
Jonah Hill Was Turned Down For A David Fincher Film Despite The Studio Being Dead Set On Him
David Fincher’s 2010 flick, The Social Network, was a classic that explored the inception of Facebook. It featured Justin Timberlake in a supporting role as the founder of Napster. Jonah Hill had also auditioned for the role and although the studio was floored by his acting skills, somehow David Fincher was not convinced. While appearing in The Bill Simmons Podcast in 2018 (via. IndieWire), Hill opened up about how David Fincher was not a fan, and ultimately the role went to Justin Timberlake.
“Low-key, David Fincher, or high-key, David Fincher didn’t want me in ‘Social Network,’. It was between me and Justin Timberlake for that part… Obviously [Fincher’s] the man, but he was not having me. The studio wanted me, I think, and then Justin Timberlake was amazing in it. ‘The Social Network’ is the one that I was actually like, years later, was like, ‘Fuck, like I’m so bummed.’”
Although Justin Timberlake is no master Thespian, it cannot be denied that he can act, and it is almost impossible to think of the cocky and slightly arrogant Sean Parker without Justin Timberlake’s devilish charm doing it justice. However, Hill got his consolation prize when he got an Oscar nomination for Moneyball the next year and Justin Timberlake, although praised by critics, was snubbed by the Academy Awards.
Sarah Brady and Her Accusation About Jonah Hill’s Emotional Abuse
On July 7, 2023, Jonah Hill’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady opened up about their relationship on Instagram and alleged that Jonah Hill had been abusing her emotionally. She shared many screenshots (via. MFW on X) from their conversation with the caption:
“This is a warning to all girls. If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan.”
In the screenshots, he is seen asking Brady to take down pictures that he deemed “sexual” and stated in a matter-of-fact manner to end her friendships with people in “unstable places.” In one of the screenshots, Hill can be seen to have texted, “But it’s not my place to teach you. I’ve made my boundaries clear,” only to later reprimand Brady about lacking “boundaries” with her male friends in another screenshot.
Hill has not confirmed his identity in the screenshots. He also did not speak out publicly about Brady’s accusations yet.
The Social Network is available to stream on Prime Video.
