Judge Denies That ’70s Show Actor Danny Masterson Bail Fearing Scientologist Would Flee Country After Multiple R*pe Charges
Danny Masterson can’t escape the cage, it seems. American actor Danny Masterson is a popular name in the Hollywood industry. Known for his famous characters Steven Hyde in That ’70s Show and Jameson Rooster Bennett in The Ranch, Danny Masterson is quite acclaimed. He has a total of 3 award nominations to his name, out of which he won the Jury Award for his 2008 movie, The Brooklyn Heist.
Masterson has 3 felony counts of r*pe. It’s quite a serious topic of argument whether he shall be allowed bail or not.
Danny Masterson Was Not Granted Bail
That ’70s Show actor Danny Masterson’s life started going downhill in 2017. He was charged for 3 r*pes and then got convicted for 2 r*pes. On being found guilty, Masterson was punished with 30 long years in prison. Recently, the judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Charlaine Olmedo has denied Masterson his bail. The judge stated clear reasons for her denial of the pending bail appeal of Masterson.
The judge said that the convicted would attempt to flee on getting the slightest chance. Currently, Masterson has no family or home to go to, and hence, it’s natural for him to flee if the bail is permitted.
The divorce process between Masterson and his wife, Bijou Phillips is in progress right now. The couple is having a divorce after 12 years of marriage. Judge Charlaine Olmedo has said (via The Wrap):
“If the defendant’s conviction and sentence are upheld on appeal, he will likely remain in custody for decades and perhaps the rest of his life.”
The fear of the court is quite reasonable keeping in mind the possible intention of Masterson. Hence, it is the right decision to not approve his bail.
Danny Masterson Has Been A Convict for Years Now
It all started in 2017 when three women filed r*pe cases against Masterson that led to an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Netflix fired Masterson from one of its comedy series in December 2017 due to such legal issues. The investigation went on for three long years, and finally, on 21st May 2021, the Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo decided against Masterson.
However, on 7th June 2021, Masterson was freed from jail after a $3.3 million bail. The next hearing was set for August 9, 2021. In that hearing, Olmedo rejected all the requests from Masterson’s lawyer claiming them stunningly overboard.
However, after a long period of arguments and trials, Masterson was finally sentenced to 30 years of prison on 7th September 2023. The period of serving in prison is indefinite, though, as lifelong imprisonment is still in the equation.
