“Just as gory and just as foul-mouthed”: Kevin Feige Promises ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Be Faithful to Ryan Reynolds Superhero Films Despite Hugh Jackman’s Addition
The new movie Deadpool & Wolverine will be full of the action and humor you love, just like the previous Deadpool movies. This is according to Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige, as revealed by him in a recent interview.
The first two Deadpool movies were made by 20th Century Studios. They were more violent and comedic, catering to grown-ups more than most MCU films. Feige wants to keep that special feel of Deadpool while also making him fit within the larger MCU world. This means fans can expect the same elements they loved from Deadpool (like humor), along with the awesome fights Wolverine is famous for.
Wade Wilson Will Stay True to His Roots in the Upcoming Deadpool 3
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said on The Official Marvel Podcast that bringing Deadpool (the R-rated superhero) into the family-friendly Marvel Cinematic Universe was a unique task.
However, he credited director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds for finding a way to combine the best of both worlds — the wacky fun of Deadpool and the gritty action of the X-Men movies — in Deadpool & Wolverine.
For Feige, the third flick is personal because he started his Marvel career with the first X-Men movies 26 years ago, where Hugh Jackman played Wolverine. Seeing Jackman return as Wolverine for this film is special and nostalgic for him. The 51-year-old said:
[He is] very very excited about what we have in store. And the entire thing is just as gory and just as foulmouthed and just as R-rated as you would expect. But it is also extremely endearing and emotional and I think people are going to leave excited to turn around and go watch it again.
The team worked hard staying true to what fans love about both Deadpool and the X-Men. Fans can also rest easy, because Feige has promised the movie will capture the same tone as the previous Deadpool films.
Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Didn’t Happen
Do fans know that even though the new movie Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be a big hit, it almost never got made? The movie’s actor talked about the challenges of bringing Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ryan Reynolds said in an interview with Vanity Fair that he wanted to make another solo Deadpool movie, but it was a lot of work. After Disney bought 20th Century Fox, Reynolds pitched a lot of ideas to Marvel, but they struggled to find a new story for Deadpool. The star stated:
We frankly struggled to find a story that felt original and non-derivative of the other two Deadpool movies.
Things were so dire that they almost gave up on the movie entirely. But then, Hugh Jackman called Reynolds and told him that he wanted to do a Deadpool and Wolverine movie together. This call convinced everyone to keep going, and they finally figured out a story that worked.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on 26th July, 2024!
