Kagurabachi Anime Release Window & Expected Release Date

The Kagurabachi anime is scheduled for release in April 2027. However, since there’s still a long time left until then, no further announcement has been made regarding its exact release date. Usually, the exact release date for most seasonal anime is revealed only one or two months before the premiere month, so we may not get any new information anytime soon.

That said, we can still make an educated guess to further narrow down its release date by following the release pattern of most seasonal anime. Since the Kagurabachi anime will premiere in the Spring 2027 anime season, the first episode is expected to be released sometime in the first (or second) week of April 2027.

Still, it’s worth reminding ourselves that unforeseen circumstances may delay the entire release window, as has happened with many anime in the past. But if production goes according to schedule, then our estimate should be fairly close.

How Many Episodes Will Kagurabachi Have?

Since the source material has enough content to adapt, the Kagurabachi anime is highly expected to receive multiple seasons. But how many episodes will each season have? Although we don’t have any information/leaks regarding the potential episode count for the first season of the anime, based on the manga’s story progression, it will presumably be a 24-episode, two-cour season.

How exactly? The story progression of Kagurabachi is quite fast-paced, with many major incidents happening pretty early in the manga. Therefore, the Vs. Sojo Arc (18 Chapters) can be adapted within only 8 episodes. As for the rest of the 16 episodes, the manga could adapt 3 to 3.5 chapters per episode and end at around the 60-chapter mark, covering the entire Rakuzaichi arc (26 Chapters), and ending on a good cliffhanger in the midst of the Sword Bearer Assassination Arc.

Kagurabachi Plot: What Will the Anime Be About?

The Kagurabachi anime is expected to become the next big shonen IP to come out in recent years. Hakazono’s Kagurabachi could even dethrone Jujutsu Kaisen in popularity. The story essentially revolves around sword fights, and that alone is enough to generate much hype for battle shonen fans. Here, you’ll meet the series’ main protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira, the son of the legendary swordsmith Kunishige Rokuhira. But what’s so special about him?

Nothing in particular, but it was his dad who set him on this path. The series soon reveals that Kunishige forged six enchanted blades in the past that helped end the brutal Seitei War, as mentioned in the story. Interestingly, these six swords contain powers that can bring catastrophic destruction if they fall into the wrong hands.

But it wouldn’t be an exciting plot if nothing happened, right? So, the six blades do get stolen, leaving Chihiro with one unconfirmed seventh blade that no one knew about. Now, he must travel across urban Japan, teaming up with unexpected allies and making his way to retrieve all the stolen blades. But surely it wouldn’t go as he planned. He must choose the blood-soaked path filled with sacrifices.

Is There a Trailer for the Kagurabachi Anime?

Shochiku, Shonen Jump, and CyberAgent released a short 45-second teaser trailer for the Kagurabachi anime on YouTube, which you can watch here:

The trailer looks absolutely stunning, with its smooth animation and distinct color palette, while also capturing the catchy art style of the original manga. Though it lasts a few seconds, the trailer teases certain scenes from the first chapter of the manga. We even got to see Chihiro Rokuhira brandishing his Enchanted Blade, Enten, to wipe out a group of mobs.

Even the opening shot of two goldfish in a fishbowl is adapted directly from Chapter 1 of the manga, subtly teasing Chihiro’s bond with his father, Kunishige Rokuhira. So, all in all, the trailer managed to set the anime’s tone, which can be quite appealing to any battle shonen anime fan. The action sequences in the trailer looked phenomenal, and the swordplay animation truly couldn’t have been done any better.

Though very little information regarding the upcoming Kagurabachi anime has been released so far, some of the core voice cast and staff members have already been confirmed (via the anime’s official site).

And by the looks of it, the lineup appears to be absolutely stacked, comprising both new talents and industry big names. Here is the Japanese cast for the three major roles in the anime revealed so far, along with some of their other notable works.

One of the most promising aspects of this adaptation is that the production is being handled by the CyberAgent Group’s animation studio, Cypic (previously known as CygamesPictures), which has also worked on projects like Umamusume: Cinderella Gray and The Summer Hikaru Died. And if you’re familiar with any of their prior works, then you know that if Cypic locks in, the Kagurabachi adaptation will do the manga more than justice. Thus, the anime is even more anticipated.
