Kathryn Newton Has Disappointing News For Marvel Fans After Her Debut in Ant-Man 3
A significant face who was recast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was Cassie Lang’s character, now played by Kathryn Newton. In a span of four movies where Ant-Man was one of the central characters, we saw three actresses take on the role of his daughter. In Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, a child actor Abby Ryder Fortson was cast, then Emma Fuhrmann played Cassie Lang in Avengers: Endgame and finally Newton was roped in for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Will We See Kathryn Newton in Ant-Man 3?
Kathryn Newton has impressive filmography even without the Marvel movies added to the list. HBO’s Big Little Lies and Netflix’s The Society featured Newton in recurring roles, whereas she was a central character in movies, including Freaky and The Map of Tiny Perfect Things. Eventually, the role of Cassie Lang was offered to her since Marvel planned on including her in the Young Avengers plot that witnesses the next generation of Earth’s mightiest heroes. She was the third actress to play Cassie Lang in the MCU.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the interviewer asked Newton about her role in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe and what it would be like to be a Young Avenger. The actress seemed excited about the opportunity and expressed her eagerness to be a part of the movie. She said,
“In the Marvel universe, you hope for that. You hope to be. My whole thing is that I grew up watching Iron Man, and I feel like I grew with that character. So my hope for Cassie Lang has always been to grow with my audience, be it the people who are my age and saw [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania], or the people who are just starting to watch Marvel movies at a young age. I saw one when I was a little young, but I still love those movies. So if I get an opportunity to continue the story, then that would be so cool to be a part of a generation that’s growing up with a film. It’s such a big part of my life.”
Speaking about the possibility of being in another movie and if Marvel has contacted her to sign another contract, she claimed,
“But they don’t really tell you. They tell you an overall, but I don’t take anything for granted. I am just trying to get through the day. Let’s finish one movie, and then let’s continue. But I would very much also jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again.”
Nonetheless, she has more exciting projects lined up. For Susanna Fogel and Emilia Jones’ Winner movie, she made her way to the Sundance Film Festival. Hew rom-com, Lisa Frankenstein, is also set to release this year and has been written by Oscar-winner writer Diablo Cody. This year, Newton has more projects lined up, keeping her busy with promotional events and magazine interviews. The question on everyone’s lips remains: Will she be the next superhero in the Young Avengers storyline?
