No one other superstar has managed to do their stunts on their own as consistently (and dangerously) as the 61-year-old. Just take a peek at what he did in his recently released movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Okay, we’ll save you a search: he rode a motorcycle off a cliff.

Even when he’s not jumping off mountains or running on trains, Cruise still somehow manages to find his name being linked with dangerous things, or in this particular case, an alleged rogue cult: Church of Scientology.

Tom Cruise Faces the Heat as Leah Remini Sues Church of Scientology

Scientology is a belief system that recognizes itself as “a blend of science and spirituality, with belief in an immortal spirit and in improving that spirit here on Earth using Scientology’s methods.” Scientologists believe that people have innate, yet suppressed power and ability, and they don’t usually dwell on the afterlife.

The Church of Scientology promotes and teaches Scientology, and many famous names have been purported to be connected with the group over the years with Tom Cruise perhaps being the most famous linked name. Some even consider him Scientology’s poster boy.

The Church is in the news for yet another controversial reason. Leah Remini has filed an expansive lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its leader, David Miscavige for unlawful practices, including harassment and surveillance, that have resulted in psychological torture.

Remini left the organization in 2013 after being connected with it since 1979. She has been a vocal critic of Scientology in recent years and even lapped in the Top Gun star in one of her criticisms.

Last year, the Kevin Can Wait actress quoted a Tweet and wrote: “… And as Claire says in her post below, Tom Cruise knows exactly what goes on in Scientology. Don’t let the movie star charm fool you.”

Now, the lawsuit that was filed in the California superior court on Wednesday is expected to prove a nightmare for Cruise, at least on social media.

How Is Tom Cruise Connected With Scientology

While Ethan Hunt has been linked with the Impossible Mission Force on the big screen since 1996, Cruise’s connection with Scientology dates back even further.

He has been a Scientologist since 1986 through his first wife Mimi Rogers. On more than one occasion he has publicly admitted to following the Church of Scientology.

Katie Holmes left the organization following her divorce from Cruise. It was claimed back then that the Batman Begins star didn’t want her daughter (Suri Cruise) to follow the religion.

Whether Cruise is still a Scientologist remains unclear.
