After 18 years of marriage, Kevin Costner of Yellowstone fame’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce on May 1 of 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. The former couple’s relationship has changed as a result of the actor’s alleged frustration with his ex-wife, according to recent reports.

Cayden, Hayes, and Grace are the three children that Costner and Baumgartner have together. She has asked for joint custody of the children, but their divorce appears to be becoming more contentious by the day.

Kevin Costner’s estranged wife Christine Baumgartner refuses to move out

According to recent court filing reports, actor Kevin Costner has mentioned that his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner is refusing to move out of his $145M mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

The former couple’s prenup agreement gave Baumgartner around 30 days to move out of the house, which he says was a pre-marital asset he purchased in 1988, 16 years before they tied the knot. The actor’s legal team mentioned,

“Christine has not moved out, despite multiple requests that she do so and despite Kevin’s offers to assist her financially in relocating to a new residence. Instead, Christine has taken the position that she will not move out of Kevin’s separate residence unless and until Kevin agrees to various financial demands.”

The documents say that Baumgartner is now attempting to make unreasonable financial demands as a condition of moving out and every attempt of theirs to negotiate has proved unsuccessful. The actor has, however, agreed and is willing to pay his former wife’s monthly mortgage, property tax, and insurance payments for one year if she moves into a new house.

Kevin Costner said it was important for him to ‘have a home to go’

In a recent declaration which is included in the filing, Costner had mentioned to Baumgartner that it was important for him to have a home to go to when they discussed getting married in 2003. He said in the document,

“I was married once before and, upon separation, l found myself without a home base and unable to live in my own home. I never wanted this to happen again. Because of the nature of my work, I am frequently out of town; it is therefore particularly important to me that when I am home, I have a home to go to.”

Costner’s filing further read, “Thus, when Christine (Baumgartner) and I began discussing marriage in 2003, l made it clear to her that I would not marry again without clarity that my separate property residences would remain mine to live in no matter what happened in our marriage. Christine acknowledged to me at the time that she understood the importance of this to me and she agreed to this provision.”

Kevin Costner accused Christine Baumgartner of spending $95000 without his knowledge

The actor of Yellowstone reportedly alleged his estranged wife Baumgartner of running up credit card debt to pay for entertainment costs related to their ongoing divorce proceedings. He claimed that, without his knowledge, she spent about $95,000 on attorneys and a forensic accountant.

Costner asserts that Baumgartner is breaking their prenuptial agreement and notes that his ex-wife wants the public to see his financial information, which would, in his opinion, happen if the information is made public. He worries that it might cause harm that is beyond repair. According to reports, she has requested shared custody of their three children but not spousal support due to the terms of her prenuptial agreement.

TMZ reported that Kevin Costner’s agent confirmed the couple’s decision to separate and that this served as confirmation of the separation. Costner was taken aback by his ex’s decision to file for divorce after having previously stated that he would take her back and didn’t want to proceed with the divorce. The couple going their separate ways had nothing to do with infidelity.
