51-year-old producer Kevin Feige has invested a great part of his life into the MCU and is still doing so. He has been a part of almost every big decision related to Marvel and there’s no doubt that no solid data ever gets out to the public without his knowledge. A franchise as expansive as Marvel is bound to have rumors running around considering the huge fanbase it has.

In a recent interview for Collider, Steven Weintraub enquired with Feige whether there’s any case where a lot of contracts on Fox characters with Marvel are expiring in 2025. In response, Feige clearly mentioned that he, as of now, is not aware of all the contracts. He said:

No, I don’t even know all the contracts. I mean there are people who do have who are attached for much longer than 2025…But I don’t think there was any magic year.

Feige also denied the rumor that Marvel isn’t producing a live-action movie on X-Men because the mutant characters are still in a contract with Fox. It has to be noted that months ago, an update account on X claimed that production of the live-action movie will reportedly begin in Q4 2025.

Apart from talking about the rumors of contract expiry, Feige also mentioned how external factors forced Marvel to change a few of its plans. Weintraub asked Feige if the last few years have impacted the company in any particular way, to which the latter answered positively.

Feige accepted that the COVID-19 pandemic especially forced MCU to change the release cadence.

The release cadence has changed because of the pandemic and because of the strike. Deadpool and Wolverine being our only movie this year was never initially the plan.

Although he mentioned that circumstances forced Marvel to release just one movie this year in the form of Deadpool & Wolverine, he also said that it might just work in favor of the studio. He reasoned that it is a movie with great potential in it, and being the only Marvel movie this year, it has gained everyone’s attention.
