Kim Kardashian’s Super Expensive Schiaparelli Dress Made Out Of 50,000 Pearls Broke Apart Right After Her Met Gala Appearance
It seems the pearls were raining on Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala 2023. Yes, the mother of four recently arrived at the yearly fashion show donning a Schiaparelli dress that was ‘dripping in pearls’.
She wore a custom Schiaparelli top and skirt that were draped and comprised more than 16,000 crystals and 50,000 freshwater pearls. And, of course, they were all ‘real’ pearls. However, when faced with a malfunction, Kardashian’s wildly popular 2023 Met Gala outfit gained even more online recognition.
It’s well known that the extravagant outfits that celebrities carry while attending the event set the bar for fashion. But there is no remedy for the malfunction.
In preparation for the Monday night event, Kardashian was seen leaving the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. However, as the SKKN BY KIM founder was stepping into her car, her footwear caught on the strands of 50,000 freshwater pearls that were draped over her Schiaparelli super expensive dress.

Kim Kardashian arrived at the 2023 Met Gala decked out in pearls—more specifically, 50,000 of them, which were crafted into an exquisite Schiaparelli dress.
However, the dress was obviously very delicate, and sadly, as Kardashian was walking the red carpet and heading back to her hotel, the bottom of it broke apart and fell to the ground. But as usual, she seemed to have handled the situation deftly by simply making her way inside.
Kim K spoke with Vogue about her Met Gala outfit and said,
“I wanted pearls. I thought, What is more Karl? You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls.”
Monday night marked the tenth time that the 42-year-old founder of SKIMS attended the Met Gala. This year, Kardashian flaunted her hourglass figure in a custom Daniel Roseberry Schiaparelli haute couture skirt and top made of 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls.
It reportedly took twelve artisans 1,000 hours to make the gown.
Her Met Gala Dress Contained Over 50,000 Pearls
The founder of SKIMS appeared at the 2023 Met Gala in a custom Schiaparelli creation by Daniel Roseberry, one year after donning Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gown. Kim Kardashian’s outfit also included a blush satin molded corset, and she accessorized with a choker, pearl drop earrings, and a ring crafted from crystals and baroque pearls.
As already mentioned above, the media mogul stated to Vogue that she wanted pearls because this year’s theme honored the late Karl Lagerfeld.
“I thought, ‘What is more Karl?’ You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls. Some popped on the way, and I told my daughter to grab them all. They’re real pearls and she was putting them all in her purse.”
Her 9-year daughter, North West is in New York City with her mother but missed the Monday night red carpet event. She did accompany her mother to the gala, according to social media posts, donning her own pearl pink tweed jacket and carrying a conch shell clutch.
The mother of four attended her first Met Gala in 2013 with her ex-husband, Kanye West. She wore a custom Givenchy floral ensemble, complementing it with matching gloves and shoes, for the occasion. She was expecting her eldest child, North West, at the time.
