The fans of the comic book character were very excited to watch the story come alive on-screen but were highly disappointed with the release. Kraven the Hunter received negative reviews from critics and audiences and especially panned the story, screenplay, and visual effects of the movie. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s performance was, however, appreciated, and now the question is, will there be a sequel?

Sequel to Kraven the Hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson?

The highly awaited Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson has recently been released, and unfortunately, it has failed to impress the audience unlike how the studios expected it to perform. When Taylor-Johnson was asked about his reasoning behind saying yes to the movie, the actor shared with Rolling Stone Magazine,

I think there was something unique about this character and something grounded. We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture…where they are churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema.

Taylor-Johnson noted that he wouldn’t have said yes to the movie if he did not feel that there was something to bring to the character. The movie, however, has an underwhelming performance at the box office despite Taylor-Johnson noting that the character is unique and grounded. Kraven the Hunter holds about 14% critics and 68% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes .

ScreenRant mentions that one of the reasons why Sony’s movies have failed to work is because superheroes including Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven are connected to Spider-Man stories without Spider-Man.

Fans wondered if the movie’s end was a step up for a potential sequel; however, it’s not the case. CBR mentioned that a final look at Sergei Kravinoff’s face makes it easy for the audience to know that a franchise is coming to an end.

The viewers saw Kraven in a desolate manner towards the end of the movie which left the fans imagining if the character is going to return for a sequel or not. It is unclear if Kraven travels to NYC to find Miles and run into the MCU Spider-Man in order to chart out their rivalry. The movie’s ending scene leaves the audience with unanswered questions with probably no hopes of the character returning as Sony Pictures has decided to take a pause on all Spider-Man-related projects.

A scene teasing the rivalry between Karven and Spider-Man would have given the movie a direction for the future, but since it has not, it has been assumed that there is going to be no sequel as of now.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson talks about working with Russell Crowe in Kraven the Hunter

In his conversation with THR at the New York premiere of the movie, the actor shared that the movie is for everybody and believes that by the end of the movie, the audience would want to see him go on. He added,

It’s up to you guys; it’s all up to you now.

Russell Crowe played Karven’s father in the movie, and Taylor-Johnson was asked about his experience of working with the Gladiator actor. Taylor-Johnson mentioned that Crowe is a legend and he is in awe of him.

Huge fan growing up and still am, and he is fantastic in this movie—he’s perfectly menacing, just the way you want to see Russell Crowe. He plays my father, and we get these scenes head-to-head, and it was a dream moment.

Despite Aaron Taylor-Johnson being positive about his character and the movie, it is very unlikely that he’d return for a sequel. Especially with Sony Pictures now pausing the production on future Spider-Man projects. Karven the Hunter is the only R-rated movie in the Sony Spider-Man Universe.

Kraven the Hunter is available in cinemas.
