‘Laughing at someone crying in court? It was disgusting’: $5M Rich Award Winning Singer Phoebe Bridgers Outs Herself as Amber Heard Supporter, Calls Johnny Depp ‘Violent, crazy’
The Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp trial saw Hollywood divided. Some picked one side, some picked another and many decided to remain quiet and neutral. The media and public violently took sides and blatantly hurled abuses at the opposite party. The latest celebrity to have shared her two cents on the debacle happens to be singer Phoebe Bridgers. And she has chosen the less popular, more hated side of the fight.

The Moon Song singer was recently interviewed by Teen Vogue, where she spoke up on behalf of Amber Heard. According to her, the wildly televised defamation trial changed a legal case into a “fandom war” and the Aquaman actress was made the villain of the saga.
The 28-year-old singer insisted that while the trial was in process, anytime Heard “exhibited any neurotic behavior,” it would be “held… against her.” She further talked about Johnny Depp getting a free pass despite making vile confessions in court.
“Then Johnny Depp, out of his mouth, admitted some of the most violent, crazy shit in court, and it’s somehow like, people aren’t surprised?”
The I Know The End singer felt that fans had in a way already passed the verdict before the jury did.
Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard: A legal case or a fandom war?
Bridgers further discussed the “giddy public consumption” of the televised trial. “That whole situation was so upsetting to me, that it was treated like a fandom war. Laughing at someone crying in court? It was disgusting.”
The former ‘Sloppy Jane’ member then talked about victim accounts and survivor narratives. How societal morals need to be questioned in the current ambiguous state of justice and accountability, where the victim is often vilified, was also discussed.
“It can feel insular. Like the rest of the world doesn’t care about the same morals as us.”
Bridgers claimed that men in power, like Depp, move on with their lives and career despite abuse allegations very easily.

The Grammy Award winner then went on to reference the UK libel trial between the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and Heard, where the former had lost. The UK court found veracity in The Sun’s claim calling Johnny Depp a “wife beater.” The next topic picked up by Bridgers was that of cancel culture and how truly viable it is.
“I mean, is [cancel culture] real? Who’s lost their job politically? One huge offender is in jail for actual s*x crimes, and then anything short of that is, maybe, they lose a couple friends or lose a couple jobs. Then five years later, they’re like, ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry.’ And they come back, but they never apologize — they never go away.”
In the wake of the June verdict, Heard reportedly lost all standing, ending up with no work prospects, tons of debt, and negative net worth. However, there have been sporadic suggestions that the case might reopen someday. Only time will tell…
