“I just didn’t know what was passing me, that’s all!” he told reporters. DiCaprio said he had been laughing about something unrelated and was caught off guard when Gaga walked by. DiCaprio’s The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who was seated beside him, corroborated this account of events when shown the clip.

For her part, Gaga did not seem bothered by DiCaprio’s bemused expression in the clip. The two were later spotted chatting and laughing together at a Golden Globes after-party as they watched a replay of the viral moment. According to an onlooker, DiCaprio explained himself directly to Gaga at the party and she appeared satisfied by the explanation.
