The entire music world came to a halt on October 16, 2024, when the news of former One Direction member Liam Payne’s death came out. The 31-year-old singer was found dead after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Although the specific reasons for the circumstances that led to his fall are not revealed yet, the alleged images from his room and statements from evidence and authorities paint a complex picture. Moreover, Payne’s final days also play their part in adding to this complexity.
Last Days of Liam Payne
Liam Payne went to Argentina in late September 2024 along with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who had been in a relationship with him since 2022. The singer reunited with his One Direction bandmate Niall Horan during one of his concerts on October 2 in Buenos Aires. He also posted several stories on Snapchat, sharing his excitement to meet Horan.
Following that, the couple enjoyed a Paul McCartney concert at the Estadio Monumental de River Plate on October 5 and 6. Cassidy also shared their routine on TikTok and a glimpse of the McCartney concert as well.
However, things took a different turn after this. On October 6, Payne’s ex-fiancée Maya Henry came on her TikTok and addressed the criticism she faced for speaking up against the singer. She mentioned how Payne tried to stalk her constantly, approaching her through different contact numbers and iCloud accounts.
She also took a dig at Payne’s fans who tried to bash her online, saying they don’t know the real Payne, whereas she saw him closely for years. After this happened, Cassidy left Argentina and arrived in Miami, as she revealed in her TikTok video as well.
Cassidy mentioned that her trip was supposed to be for five days only, but it got extended, which is why she decided to leave Buenos Aires as soon as possible. After her departure, Payne checked in to the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.
Following that, Henry’s interview in The Internet Is Dead comes out, where she again speaks about her “toxic” and allegedly abusive relationship with Payne. She also said,
There was one time I tried to get him (Liam Payne) help and then he was not taking it. He would text my mom: ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me,’ because I wouldn’t respond.
According to The Sun, Henry also “issued a cease and desist” to Payne after the “emergence of new and concerning information.” Following that, The Associated Press reported that Payne “had jumped from the balcony of his room.” and was seemingly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
According to BBC, Payne posted several posts on Snapchat before the incident, where he was seen spending time in his friend’s house, talking about playing polo, and seemingly enjoying his time in Argentina.
Liam Payne’s Troubles With Maya Henry
Payne and Henry got together at the beginning of 2018 after the singer broke up with Cheryl Cole. They got engaged in 2020 but separated in 2022 after Henry accused Payne of cheating. Payne also confessed in The Diary of a CEO podcast that he had “not been very good at relationships.”
On the other hand, Henry has not been very shy about discussing her relationship struggles openly. In her recent TikTok video as well, she mentioned that her novel Looking Forward which was inspired by true events, was basically about her relationship with Payne.
In the book, she talked about how the protagonist, Mallory, went through a painful abortion after her partner warned her that he would leave her if she didn’t do it. Henry later told People she “wouldn’t have done it” if situations were in her favor.
Now, a recent report from People states that Payne “was extremely overwhelmed by all of the legal issues” posed by Henry. However, one of Henry’s representatives told the Daily Mail that she is “obviously in shock” after the tragic news of Liam Payne’s death.
