Concept art gives a nod to Tom Hiddleston’s Loki from Thor: Ragnarok
Artist Karla Ortiz recently took to her social media to share some of her work from Loki where Tom Hiddleston plays the title character and revealed her unique take on the moment as well as revealing a very special connection.
Excited to share with all of you some of the work I've done for various Marvel projects in the next few days!
Let's start with #LokiSeason2 ! Early ideas on how #Loki was to meet #Ouroboros pic.twitter.com/g2EdrWUF24
— Karla Ortiz (@kortizart) December 19, 2023
In her behind-the-scene concept art, Ortiz showcased actor Ke Huy Quan, who played the character of Ouroborus or O.B. on the show, signing copies of his book, while the God of Mischief strolls into the signing event. O.B. was a science-fiction writer before he was hired by He Who Remains and the concept art showcase him as a charismatic author.
Ortiz wrote while sharing her art on X,
“I proposed two ideas, a more elegant meeting and one where Loki falls through the roof while traveling through time.”
Another sketch that Ortiz showcased showed Loki on the ground flat on his face, which is eerily similar to a scene from Thor: Ragnarok. In the movie Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, locks Loki into a perpetual fall before he is allowed to return to the real world. The endless falling of him through the ceiling proved both memorable and hilarious for fans.
There is no explanation from the artist on why were her concept art not taken up by the makers but it can be said that probable changes in the storylines during the creative process could have resulted in the makers not picking up the concept art. Also, there is no certain reason or an event that draws a connection between Loki from Thor: Ragnarok and from his series but the concept art by Ortiz does give a nod to the character being on his adventure journey throughout the MCU

“It’s the conclusion of season two. It’s also the conclusion to season one and two. It’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I am 42 now. It’s been a journey.”
He continued to talk about the finale,
“I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I’ve played. And I think, without spoiling, the episode is called Glorious Purpose. If you remember, in the first Avengers movie, Loki comes down to Earth. Look straight at Sam Jackson as Nick Fury and I sai, ‘I’m Loki of Asgard. I’m burdened with glorious purpose.’ “
Hiddleston said the most exciting thing about the show was seeing his character trying to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose, something most people can relate to. In his Happy Sad Confused podcast interview, he was asked if he was ready to say goodbye to the character. Without giving the fans an exact answer, he said there have been exchanges of thank yous, expressing gratitude kind of conversation among him, Kevin Feige Louis D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso.
