The origins of Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson’s love story lie in their first play together on Broadway. Richardson wanted Neeson to play the lead opposite her when she was performing a rendition of Anna Christie in London.
She believed the playwright wrote that part specifically for Neeson. After rehearsing and spending so much time together, they fell for each other but things weren’t so easy. They were 11 years apart in age, to begin with. Moreover, Richardson, at the time, was married. However, their undeniable chemistry brought them back together and they tied the knot in 1994.
Liam Neeson didn’t play James Bond for his wife
In the 1990s, Neeson’s career was thriving after hits like Schindler’s List and Leap of Faith. At the time, the massively popular spy franchise 007 was looking for its next face.
Neeson was offered the part, but he declined because his wife Richardson asked him to. He told James Corden,
I know they were looking at various actors and I apparently was among them. However, my dear, departed wife did say to me … ‘Darling, if you’re offered James Bond and you’re going to play it, you’re not going to marry me.’
This just goes on to show how Neeson put his wife over and above everything else. No matter what amount of success or glory roles were put in front of him, he always chose to respect his wife’s decision and honor her wishes.
