The bad news for Madonna’s fans is that her highly anticipated biopic will no longer be moving forward due to her future plans. Universal Pictures has reportedly taken a step back from the development of the Madonna biopic that was going to direct the film by the Queen of Pop herself. It came after the singer announced a massive ‘Celebration World Tour’ on various social media platforms.

During the summer of 1983, the Queen of Pop took the music industry by storm with her self-titled debut album Madonna. Audiences immediately became enraptured by her music. She turned a pop-tart image into a pop icon by unapologetically owning her s*xuality and breaking boundaries. The only thing Madonna ever wanted after her debut album became a worldwide smash hit was to rule the world, and she did, and it continues. Additionally, she is currently concentrating all of her attention on her tour, which will boost her fans’ spirits in 2023.

Madonna’s Biopic Was Canceled As She Wished For A Gritty Script

According to reports, Madonna, 64, was planning to direct her own untitled biopic. But there was a fallout between Universal Studios and the singer over the script, leading to the Queen of Pop stepping aside. Page Six reported that the music icon wanted her biopic’s script grittier, but Universal Studios wanted it either way.

A source close to the music icon told Page Six,

Madonna will someday make a film about her life. But this tour is the creative and professional focus for M right now.”

Her studio’s insider added,

“Basically, they don’t like it. They want it to be pop and light. Madonna wants something much grittier, and it’s come to a stalemate.”

“She’d rather go to another studio than change the script. She still wants to make the film but will now look at it again after the tour. She’s keeping the same writers but is aware that she might have to recast if the actors aren’t available.”

According to Page Six, as part of an Instagram Live session in September 2020, the Queen of Pop revealed,

“My film would cover my struggle as an artist trying to survive in a man’s world as a woman.”

Several young stars of a certain age tried out for the role, including Florence Pugh and Odessa Young, before Ozark star Julia Garner emerged as the frontrunner to play Madonna. According to reports, while the name of the film is still undecided, it appears that it will no longer move forward in its production.

Queen of Pop’s Celebration World Tour Announcement Also Lead To The Scrapping Of Her Biopic

With great pride, Madonna and Live Nation come together to announce ‘The Celebration World Tour,’ the music icon’s 12th tour and the first tour to celebrate her four decades of music. Unfortunately, according to reports, announcing her massive world tour has caused her highly anticipated untitled biopic featuring Julia Garner to be scrapped. There are reports, however, that the decision to cancel the biopic of the artist was made before the announcement of her celebration world tour.

As part of this tour, which will begin in Vancouver on July 15th, the whole team will be visiting multiple cities in America and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom and Europe, during the tour. In 2020, the singer announced the biopic project that would chronicle her almost four decades of music and other endeavors, such as art, movies, fashion, and charity.

Along with directing her biopic, the singer also had plans to co-write the movie’s screenplay with Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody. However, he later stepped out of the project after finding Madonna too challenging to work with. It was later announced that Erin Cressida would be co-writing and Amy Pascal would produce the film. As a result of the fallout between Universal Studios and Madonna regarding the script of her biopic and her fully dedicated celebration world tour, Madonna’s movie has been put on hold as of now.
