Mahershala Ali’s Blade might finally see the light of day if Hollywood’s ever-running rumor mill has churned out the right report this time. According to some recent activities on Ali’s social media, it is speculated that the film might escape developmental hell after so long, and finally begin shaping up into what could be a great outing for Marvel.
Ali took over the role from Wesley Snipes who starred as the vampire hunter in a trilogy of movies when New Line Cinema owned the rights to the character. Ever since Marvel regained complete creative control over the character, there has not been much progress. However, things might begin looking up now if this director has been signed to work on it.
Mahershala Ali’s Blade Might Have Finally Landed a Director
The ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe had a bit of downtime last year with some of its movies and shows not doing nearly as well as the pre-Avengers: Endgame stuff. However, it made a smashing comeback this year with the blockbuster movie Deadpool & Wolverine, with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at the forefront.
Although the studio is no longer in the danger zone anymore, it still has not been able to solve the riddle that Blade reboot has become for it. There were reports of a script being in the works back in 2013. So far, the movie has gone through multiple writers and directors. First Bassam Tariq and then Yann Demange left the director’s chair.
As one can imagine, this has been a matter of dilemma for the studio. Earlier this month, there were some reports on X that Marvel is talking to a “specific director”. Interestingly, recently, industry insider Daniel Richtman claimed on his official X account that Mahershala Ali has begun following Jordan Peele on Instagram.
Peele has been the mastermind behind some of the best Hollywood movies on recent years, like Us, Nope, and Get Out. So, the mere prospect that he could end up directing the movie is a huge deal for the fans. Not to mention that the flick’s entire trajectory could change for good.
Fans Are Excited That Jordan Peele Might Be Blade‘s Endgame
At this point, fans would heave a sigh of relief at the mere news of a director taking up Blade under their wing. The fact that it could be Peele is enough to get them all worked up about all the ways this would go. Here is how some of them responded to the situation at hand.
Back in 2019, when Ali was announced to have signed with Marvel Studios to play the titular role, fans rallied behind Peele to direct it. However, the Candyman producer slashed their hopes by telling Rolling Stone that he was not interested and even justified his decision.
It has been quite some time since then, so maybe he has changed his mind. Or perhaps the Academy Award-winning actor is possibly a part of his next movie. So, fans might want to take this update with a grain of salt until there is an official announcement regarding it.
Blade is scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025.
