Margot Robbie’s Attempt to Replace Eva Longoria’s Hit Show With Wednesday Star Christina Ricci’s ‘Pan Am’ Almost Failed Her Career
Australian actress Margot Robbie rose to fame as the hot blonde wife Naomi Laplaglia of the protagonist Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 biographical comedy The Wolf of Wall Street. After all these years, it is no longer a secret how she landed the role by slapping Leonardo DiCaprio (Jordan Belfort) across the face during her audition.
For someone who has not dreamed of becoming an actress since she was a little kid, Margot Robbie has achieved what some people have spent years hoping to achieve in Hollywood. However, there was a point in her career that could have completely annihilated her career right when it would take off. This was when the show Pan Am was axed after a single season.

Margot Robbie Revealed the Reason Behind Pan Am‘s Failure
In 2011, Robbie refused to star in the renewal of the Australian soap opera Neighbors and flew out to America to establish a career in Hollywood. That is how she landed the role of a newly trained stewardess in the period drama series Pan Am. The turning point came when ABC decided to cancel the show after a single season.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Barbie star revealed why the series was canceled, saying:
“As soon as it went on-air, they were like, ‘No, we didn’t get the ratings we want—let’s get a whole new crew of writers and make it more like Housewives.’ And you’re like, ‘What? That’s so not what the show was going to be.’ After the fifth episode, you see this abrupt change in content. If they’re rehiring writers, it’s obviously not doing well. If they don’t pick up the back nine, it’s pretty certain that you won’t go for a Season Two.”

Margot Robbie knew the Christina Ricci starrer show would not make it to another season, so she started doing what wise people would do and that was auditioning for other projects. Thankfully, she landed her role in The Wolf of Wall Street which worked wonders for her career.
Margot Robbie Got Out Of Neighbors
Margot Robbie embarked on her professional acting career when she was in high school. She starred in two independent films that were released long after they were filmed. She went on to appear in the kids’ TV series The Elephant Princess. The show also starred Liam Hemsworth, but neither of these actors was famous at the time.
The Babylon actress got out of the Australian soap opera Neighbors to build her career in Hollywood, but it did not completely shut the doors for her in the show. Speaking about her exit from the show, she said:
“I wanted a big dramatic death but they were like, ‘No, we want to keep it open. That way, when it doesn’t work out in America, you can come back to your job here.’ So my character in Neighbours got a scholarship at a fashion school in New York.”
Robbie, however, made it work in America and is now one of the most famous actresses in the world. Her role as the DC supervillain Harley Quinn catapulted her to worldwide recognition, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie further solidified it.
