Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is one of the highly anticipated movies of this year. The film is just weeks away from its premiere. The live-action film directed by Greta Gerwig is set to release this month. The film will clash with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Robbie’s upcoming film is based on the famous doll Barbie and her best friend Ken. The film draws inspiration from the iconic toy line of the same name, now owned by Mattel. The toy corporation that produces Barbie and other well-known brands established a branch in 2018 to produce films based on its toys, games, and brands. Margot Robbie’s Barbie marks the first live-action film from Mattel’s film division. However, the company has planned many more adaptations. Some of the movies are announced by the company.

The highly anticipated film Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will hit theaters this month. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, is based on the famous doll Barbie. Mattel, who owns the toy line of Barbie is planning to bring out various other movies inspired by their toys. 

Barbie seems to be only the beginning for the company as they have 45 films based on Mattel’s numerous toys already in development. Looking at the positive response Barbie is getting online, the company has announced additional 45 films in development based on their many toy brands. 

Only 13 of these 45 projects are publicly announced, including Barney the Dinosaur by Daniel Kaluuya and a J.J. Abrams-directed Hot Wheels movie. Other announced films based on Mattel toys include American Girl, Magic 8 Ball, Major Matt Mason, Matchbox, Masters of the UniversePolly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Uno, and View-Master. Different production companies will work on the films, but Mattel’s in-house Mattel Films will oversee them all.

The future of these upcoming projects completely depends on the upcoming film starring Margot Robbie in the lead. If Barbie becomes a box office success, then it will launch Mattel’s Toy Verse.

Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the stars is a much-hyped film of Hollywood. Barbie’s struggle to find her real calling outside of Barbieland after being expelled due to her flaws is the film’s central topic.

The story revolves around Barbie (Robbie), Ken (Gosling), and their chance encounter with the human world, where they discover the peril of creating living things for humans.

Along with Robbie and Gosling, other notable names associated with the project include Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, Nicola Coughlan, Dua Lipa, etc. The Barbieland set from the movie was influenced by the various toy lines and themed Barbies throughout the doll’s existence.

Barbie will drop in theaters on July 21, 2023.
