Charlie Cox talks about his first blind audition
Actor Charlie Cox, back in the 2018 Las Vegas Comic Con, was asked about his audition for the fan-favorite character, to which he said,
“I got a call about an audition. It was a secret, they didn’t tell us what it was called or what it was, I just had some lines … the story I tell is that I didn’t know the character was blind in my first audition, so I didn’t do that, and then you know it’s quite a rigorous process.”
He continued,
“I had to audition, I had Skype, I was then allowed to read the first two episodes, and then I had to fly to LA to have a screen test, and then I had a meeting, and then I had another screen test, and then eventually I got the job. So it was a real process, I was really jumping through a lot of hoops to get it.”
It was known that the actor had always been the first choice for the part of Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb at the time shared that it was the actor’s vulnerability, charm, and physical commitment that made him the right choice for the role.
The actor was asked about the challenges of playing Daredevil, to which he said at the time that it has been a real challenge as there are so many aspects to his character, noting that the character is blind, the physicality and the action sequences are hard to film but interesting.
Charlie Cox says that Daredevil: Born Again will be dark but won’t be as gory
During an interview with NME, Charlie Cox discussed the upcoming highly awaited series Born Again which is set to premiere in 2024, and added,
“My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.”
The actor also clarified that Born Again is not going to be the continuation of its Netflix predecessor, adding that they’ve done that and they are planning to take the things that worked but try to broaden it. He noted that they are going to appeal to slightly younger audiences without losing what they’ve learned about what works.
The first season of Born Again is said to have 18 episodes and even though the actor states that he is unaware of the revival series, he is just incredibly grateful to be back as Daredevil. He said,
“I love playing this character. How much longer at my age can I play the lead in a superhero film or TV show? Not very long, probably. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t have any [physical] issues. My shoulder’s done. My knees are in bad shape. My back’s gone.”
Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere in 2024.
