Marvel Reportedly Ready to Give Finn Jones His Redemption Arc as Iron Fist if Latest Report Comes True
- Reports have suggested Marvel Studios are planning to bring back Finn Jones as Iron Fist.
- Fans who liked the show believe that Finn Jones should be given a chance to redeem himself as Iron Fist.
- The actor is willing to grow more with the character.
Created by Scott Buck, Marvel’s Iron Fist, starring Finn Jones as the titular character, is a television series that premiered on Netflix. The show, taking inspiration from martial arts movies, was developed after a movie based on the character was in the works at Marvel Studios for over a decade. The television series, upon release, garnered negative reviews from critics but reportedly had a strong viewership.
Netflix canceled the series after two seasons, which was fourth in the order of Marvel’s series after Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. They eventually led to the miniseries The Defenders. After Disney regained the license for it from Netflix, the show began streaming on Disney+. Now, reports have suggested that Marvel Studios might give Iron Fist another shot.
Marvel Studios planning to bring back Finn Jones as Iron Fist?
According to reports by Cosmic Circus, Marvel Studios is looking into bringing back actors Finn Jones, Mike Colter, and Krysten Ritter to reprise their roles as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. Alex Perez mentioned in his Discord,
Marvel Studios wants all three to come back. However, their roles will vary depending on the character, with the most significant change being applied to Danny Rand.
Fans disliked Marvel’s Iron Fist that premiered on Netflix for several reasons, one being that it had very underwhelming action sequences. The fans have complained that in the 13-episode run, not even a single action sequence is memorable, especially when Iron Fist is a superhero who is known for punching things hard and is a martial arts expert.
A lot of fans at the time mentioned that the main lead wasn’t the right choice for the character that needed to be portrayed on-screen. Back in 2017, Jones addressed the controversy of a white man being cast as a character who becomes the greatest champion of martial arts. Fans believed that an Asian-American actor would have been the right choice. In his interview with Vulture, the actor said,
There is so much outrage on the internet these days, right? Why don’t people just—look? The issue is that people are judging before they’ve even seen the show. And that’s problematic. C’mon. Don’t get angry and start a mob when you don’t even—you haven’t even seen the show! You don’t even know what we’re doing with it. It’s unfair.
The actor acknowledged that there should be more diversity in films and television, but the show was picked for ‘whatever reason’ he does not fully understand. Jones, however, urged the audience to watch the show before making a judgment. The opinion didn’t change after the show was released, but since recent reports suggest that he could be back as Iron Fist, that means that Marvel Studios saw some potential in him.
Finn Jones would like to continue to grow with Iron Fist
Earlier in June, the actor, in his conversation with The Nerd Shepherd at the Heroes Dutch Comic Con, was asked about his probable return to Marvel, to which he said,
There was still a lot of room for growth with that character. I think I’m in a place professionally where I would like to continue to grow with that character. I would love to see the chemistry between Mike and me again. It was always fantastic. I think those are really interesting characters to put together.
Upon being asked if he’d straightaway reprise his character, Jones added that if the studios were willing to bring back his character, he’d jump right in. A section of fans who believe that Jones’ casting wasn’t that bad are willing to give him a chance to redeem himself.
The actor also noted that he’d love his character to be back in something like the Heroes for Hire TV series, adding that it’s probably the most dynamic and fun way to reintroduce the characters. He lastly added that he’d pick up the mantle again and keep moving the character of Danny Rand/Iron Fist and make the best possible Iron Fist there could be. However nothing has been confirmed by the studios.
Iron Fist is streaming on Disney+.
