Marvel Studios Reportedly Setting the Stage of Kang Recast, Another Black Actor to Take Over as MCU’s Conqueror of Timelines
The actor Jonathan Majors, who portrayed the antagonist Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Studios’ Tom Hiddleston starrer show Loki before portraying numerous variants of the antagonist in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, was caught up in an alleged abuse case. Things do not appear to be going well for the actor if reports are to be believed, but nothing can be said right now.
The texts that were intended to demonstrate his innocence generated more allegations of emotional abuse online, and this controversy has made people wonder about the actor’s future and the projects he has worked on. The second season of Loki is one of his upcoming projects, and according to sources, Marvel Studios are trying to look forward to how to proceed with the character once the show wraps up later this year.
Marvel Studios considering recasting Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror
Marvel Studios is reportedly considering recasting Kang the Conqueror, according to reports from Cosmic Circus. Kang is acknowledged as one of the primary antagonists of the upcoming phases of the Marvel Universe, but Jonathan Majors‘ involvement in the alleged abuse cases decides to replace him more likely.
Although nothing has been proven as of yet, it is clear that the Studios will weigh all of their options before deciding to replace the actor. Only Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, whose production is slated to start next year, remains in doubt as Majors has already wrapped up filming for his part in Loki season 2 on Disney+. Marvel Studios have not yet commented on the situation, leaving the fans wondering what could be their next step.
Is Jonathan Majors hard to lose for Marvel Studios?
According to rumors, Marvel Studios has already agreed to use Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which will center on Kang the Conqueror, to develop the next three years’ worth of Multiverse Saga storytelling.
Joanna Robinson, author of the upcoming book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, shared on The Ringer’s The Big Picture;
“I was told by someone who works for Marvel, it was not the plan to make Kang the center of everything until they saw the dailies from ‘Quantumania’ and after his performance in ‘Loki,’ which was so strong they were like, ‘This is it. This is our way forward. We’ve lost our varsity hero team, but let’s set up around this guy Kang and this performer that so many people are reacting to.’”
Therefore, it is clear that the reason Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror storyline or character is so prominent is just due to the actor’s portrayal of it, and losing that would be a huge loss for the MCU. It is difficult to predict at this point whether Marvel Studios will replace the actor or figure out a way to continue working with him only if the jury finds him not guilty.
Jonathan Majors could face a year in prison
The actor is currently charged with three counts of third-degree assault, three counts of third-degree attempted assault, three counts of second-degree harassment, and three counts of second-degree aggravated harassment. At the time, the victim reportedly endured significant pain and a laceration behind her ear after the actor allegedly struck her in the face with an open hand.
Majors allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, causing her great pain and screams, it was further claimed. Majors’ lawyer issued a statement in which he referred to the accusations and stories as “a witch hunt” and vowed to clear the actor’s name. According to an earlier ABC News report, Majors dialed 911 on his own, and police responded. The call was “purportedly over concerns about his girlfriend, whom he lives with in a penthouse apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood.” Majors was then arrested after police noticed marks on the woman.
Jonathan Majors and his team continue to refute the accusations and have released the texts that might support their case. If found guilty, however, the actor might serve up to a year in jail. He has currently been dropped from a US Army advertising campaign, and replacements are being considered for a number of his upcoming projects. His PR company, The Lede Company, as well as his talent manager, Entertainment 360, had dropped him.
