“Maybe I shouldn’t do that one”: ‘Barbie’ Director Greta Gerwig Was Terrified While Making Her $291 Million Movie
Being one of the most well-known Hollywood directors of the present time, Greta Gerwig can be trusted with film projects to make them turn out well and enjoyable. She might not be a part of any big commercial franchises and such, but her films such as Lady Bird, and Little Women have proved her ability and the capability to be a great director.
Aside from Barbie (2023), Gerwig’s upcoming project is reportedly is 2 films with Netflix based on C.S. Lewis’s Narnia book series. However, despite her capabilities, the Frances Ha star has opened up about being scared of taking on the position of director for the two movies.
Greta Gerwig Reveals She is Scared Of Directing Netflix’s Upcoming Narnia Film Series
When it comes to filmmaking, Greta Gerwig is one name that cannot be ignored these days. She has gradually earned recognition through various of her projects including Little Women, Lady Bird, etc. But despite having a pretty good experience as a director, Gerwig recently opened up about feeling terrified of taking up Netflix’s upcoming project based on Narnia.
But she also added that feeling scared was a good sign for actually. Talking with the Total Film podcast she said,
“I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t do that one”
The project was announced back in 2018 when Netflix acquired the rights required to make movies based on C.S. Lewis’ books. It has already been more than a decade since the last film of the Narnia film series Voyage of the Dawn Treader came out in 2010.
And with Gerwig’s version, the new generation will be getting their brand new film based on the classic fantasy book.
A Brief Look at Narnia Film Series
The first film in the three-part series based on the C.S. Lewis Narnia Books was Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which was released back in 2005. It follows the same plot as in the book with the same title. Three years later, its sequel Prince Caspian was released in 2008.
These two films were directed by Andrew Adamson while the third and the last part Which is the Voyage of the Dawn Treader was directed by Michael Apted. All three films have received critical and box-office success earning hundreds of millions in total.
