MCU: Most Shocking Moments Of This Year
Some of the most surprising events in MCU history may be found in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but 2021 was full of surprises for MCU fans. The MCU’s most surprising moments in 2021 also served to expand and broaden the series as a whole, either by connecting it to Marvel Comics legacy or, in certain cases, other unconnected live-action brands.
Every instalment in the franchise this year had major disclosures and surprising twists, defying expectations and opening up possibilities for the future that fans couldn’t have predicted.
The Mystery Of The Ten Rings
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’ post-credits scene set up one of the MCU’s new major mysteries. The rings, Wong explains to Shang-Chi and Katy, have no evident origin in magic or the cosmos, but they are transmitting a beacon to someone somewhere.
This surprising turn of events contradicts the comic book origins of the rings, which were built by an alien civilization known as the Makluans. There are several ideas concerning the origins of the Ten Rings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up a lot of exciting possibilities for the future.
Laura Barton Is Mockingbird
Although there were numerous not-so-subtle hints that Laura Barton was Mockingbird throughout the Hawkeye series, the eventual disclosure stunned viewers. Fans realise the importance of the Rolex watch retrieved at the former Avengers base when Laura Barton hands it over.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and the number 19 are inscribed on the back of the watch. Mockingbird was Agent 19 in Marvel Comics, and one of the best spies in the Marvel Universe. Her name was Bobbi Morse, and she was also married to Clint Barton.
Kingpin Returns
Many fans hoped, but few could have predicted that Vincent D’Onofrio would reprise his role as Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were as many not-so-subtle hints as there were about Mockingbird being the main evil in the series, and the villain was revealed in episode five.
The reappearance of D’Onofrio confirmed that the Netflix Marvel programmes are canon within the MCU, which had been an open topic since they ended. It also foreshadows big things to come, as he won’t be the only Marvel Netflix character to make an appearance in the MCU in 2021.
Aunt May Dies
One of the saddest MCU moments of 2021 was also one of the most startling. Aunt May’s death at the hands of the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home was both painful and unexpected, especially given that it occurred while she was attempting to assist Norman Osborn.
Aunt May’s death had a purpose, which was similar to Uncle Ben’s in the Spider-Man comics. She even says Spider-famous Man’s line, “With tremendous power comes great responsibility,” which is his guiding concept in life.
Dark Doctor Strange
In the last moments of the trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, a stunning revelation for viewers occurred at the end of No Way Home. The clip finishes with the Sorcerer Supreme coming face to face with what looks to be his dark variation from the animated series What If…?
The dark Doctor Strange from What If…? destroyed his reality in an attempt to modify time, and this reveal sets up a big conflict. The same thing could happen in the future film, as it appears that reality is dissolving in the same way outside the Sanctum Santorum.
The Three Spider-Men
The reintroduction of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in No Way Home was by far the biggest and most welcome shock of the MCU in 2021. Despite the fact that it had been widely predicted – Garfield had constantly denied it during the year – the moment came as a complete surprise to many, as evidenced by audience reactions.
The reunion of the three Spider-Men was one of the most surprising moments in the MCU, especially given how crucial it felt to the plot. It wasn’t just a perfunctory cameo; both returning performers played key roles in the tale.
