Megan Thee Stallion Following in Kendall Jenner’s Footsteps For Her New Business Could Go Wrong If She Repeats One Mistake That Nearly Sunk the Model’s Company
Megan Thee Stallion garnered the attention of the public when her videos of freestyling became popular on social media. The American rapper’s breakthrough came with the release of her singles Hot Summer Girl and Cash Shit. Stallion’s Savage Remix featuring Beyoncé was yet another successful single, along with her featuring on Cardi B’s WAP.
The American rapper parted ways with her record label 1501 and 300 Entertainment in 2023 after her tedious trial against Tory Lanez, who allegedly shot her in the foot in Hollywood Hills. Megan Thee Stallion, who is now an independent artist, is one of the most successful and popular rap artists. She recently shared with her fans about her new business venture.
Megan Thee Stallion reveals plans to launch her tequila brand
It is not new for artists in the industry to venture into something other than their main career to fulfill their desire to do something that they have long desired. Megan Thee Stallion is no different, as she recently revealed that she’d be launching her tequila brand.
During a panel at AdWeek for Social Media Week 2024, the artist shared (via Essence),
I create the things that I want to see; I don’t create things for other people to like them. I create music I want to hear, I go and do my own thing, and stay true to me.
She did not share much about the tequila brand but added that as long as people are doing things that are true to them and they feel good, they’ll be able to get the audience they want to attract.
You don’t want to be a walking commercial. You should do things that make you feel good. You’ll create more moments that way.
Megan Thee Stallion now adds to the list of celebrities who have launched their tequila brands, including Kevin Hart, George Clooney, Kendall Jenner, LeBron James, and more. She is currently on her Hot Girl Summer Tour, which kicked off on May 14th in Minneapolis and will run through July 27th in Washington, D.C.
Fans warn Megan Thee Stallion not to repeat Kendall Jenner’s mistake
Megan Thee Stallion’s fans were not only thrilled with the rapper launching her tequila brand but also concerned for her and shared that she shouldn’t repeat what Jenner did when she launched 818.
According to reports by ELLE, to honor her tequila brand 818 when it was launched, the model decided to share a campaign that she shot from a farm in Jalisco, Mexico. She wrote on her social media at the time,
What an incredible experience I have had thus far, learning about this beautiful place, its beautiful culture, and its beautiful people.
Fans online pointed out that the outfit that Jenner decided to don for her campaign was traditionally associated with Mexican culture, but she is not Mexican. The people online also pointed out that it seemed like the model and her brand capitalized on stereotypes typically associated with farmers in Mexico.
A user on X (then twitter) explained why fans online were angry over the campaign by stating that tequila is important in Mexican culture because no other country can produce it, and it’s an important beverage that people in Mexico use. She further commented,
Many families, especially in Jalisco, Mexico, produce tequila for Mexican brands or even have their own small business of tequila. Kendall Jenner coming to Jalisco and starting her tequila is making so many families lose their jobs to big names like her.
The name 818 serves as an homage to her hometown, Calabasas, located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. So it was apt for Stallion’s fans to showcase their concern over the campaign for the tequila.
