Michael Oher Allegedly Threatened His Adoptive Parents For $15 Million
Michael Oher and the Tuohy family are making headlines around the world. The dispute between the NFL star and his adoptive family came to light after the release of the Sandra Bullock starrer The Blind Side in 2009. The movie revolved around the life of the sports personality Michael Oher.
According to a petition filed by the NFL player, he had been in a conservatorship with the reputed family from the age of eighteen. The revelations have shocked everyone as multiple questions have been risen on the credibility of the adoptive family of Michael Oher and his association with them. As per the recent developments on the controversy, the Tuohy family has refuted back on the allegations made by the sports icon.
Michael Oher Reportedly Threatened The Tuohy Family For Millions
According to the claims made by the attorney representing the Tuohy family, Michael Oher threatened the couple for paying millions before filing a petition that alleged that the couple lied and made millions in his name from his biographical project.
Michael Oher mentioned in the petition that the family did not adopt him legally, but tricked him into making them his conservators before generating millions by selling his false story in the media. The critically acclaimed movie The Blind Side was based on the life of Michael Oher.
According to Martin Singer, the attorney of the Tuohy family-
“The Tuohy family opened their home to Mr. Oher, and offered him structure, support, and most of all, unconditional love. His response was to threaten them, including saying that he would plant a negative story about them in the press unless they paid him $15 million.”
The statement further mentioned-
“Sadly, Mr. Oher has finally found a willing enabler” to file “this ludicrous lawsuit as a cynical attempt to drum up attention in the middle of his latest book tour. Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see that the outlandish claims made by Michael Oher about the Tuohy family are hurtful and absurd. The idea that the Tuohys have ever sought to profit off Mr. Oher is not only offensive, it is transparently ridiculous.”
The legal team of Michael Oher also responded-
“We try cases in the courtroom based on the facts. We have confidence in our judicial system and in our client Michael Oher. We believe that justice will be served in the courtroom, and we hope to get there quickly.”
The controversial allegations have divided the internet too. As the NFL star’s fans and followers are sympathizing with him whereas the rest of the people are talking about why this was not spoken about earlier as the Tuohy family had been catering to his every need for the past eighteen years.
Sean Tuohy Breaks His Silence On The Allegations Made By Michael Oher
The Blind Side portrays the journey of Michael Oher coming from a small town of Memphis and being raised by the family of Tuohys and shining in the spotlight with his NFL association. Amidst the bad media press and the allegations made by Michael Oher on the Tuohy family, Sean Tuohy broke his silence on the entire matter. During an interview with the media outlet Daily Memphian, he said-
“We’re devastated. It’s upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we’re going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16. The last thing I needed was 40 grand from a movie. I will say it’s upsetting that people would think I would want to make money off any of my children.
According to the allegations made by the sports personality, he was denied the profits by the Tuohy family, that were a part of the movie, The Blind Side. The Tuohy kids reportedly made $250,000 from his biographical project. However, the sports entertainment outlet ESPN, mentioned that the Tuohy family straightaway denied making a lot of profit from the movie as they only received a fee for the story but did not have any share in the profits.
